Report: Chris Christie still being considered for Trump Cabinet posts
UPI vir Breitbart ^ | Nov. 25, 2016

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is still under consideration for one of two Cabinet posts in the Trump administration, according to a report out of Christie’s home state.

NJ Advance Media, which owns the Newark Star-Ledger, reported this week Christie is being considered to lead the Homeland Security or Energy departments. Either post would require Senate confirmation and would require Christie to resign as governor prior to the end of his second and final term, which concludes in January, 2018.

NJ Advance Media cited three unnamed sources who said Christie remains under consideration for the jobs despite having been demoted as head of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team earlier this month. Christie was demoted to one of several co-chairs of the transition and Vice President-elect Mike Pence was named his replacement, amid reports of infighting between Christie and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, a member of Trump’s inner circle.

Christie has been dogged by damaging testimony from a former aide over the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal. Two of Christie’s former aides were convicted of plotting to snarl traffic in Fort Lee, N.J., across the border from Manhattan, as political retribution for the town’s mayor refusing to endorse Christie’s gubernatorial re-election.

Christie, a former presidential candidate himself who was among the first to endorse Trump after his own campaign faltered, was previously a finalist to become Trump’s running mate. The former U.S. attorney was also thought to be in the running for attorney general prior to the Bridgegate scandal.

As head of Homeland Security, Christie would oversee the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Christie has an extensive, frequently caustic relationship with FEMA, after publicly feuding for more relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Trump's first few picks were very good and encouraging. The more recent ones, no. Though it's only speculation at this point, even considering the likes of Romney, Gabbard, Christie, et al.--ugh.

No matter what....Trump has a better handle on this than we do. We're guessing...Trump's not.

Christie....e got sucked into the Bridge scandal...he didn't initiate it.

Then-NJAG Christie put Jared’s dad in jail.

But Donald relied on Christie’s advice to get the crossover vote.

Gotta believe Christie is leaking this. Not only are the three sources unnamed, but they are not attributed in any way to anybody on the Trump transition team.

Christie stuck his neck way, way out when he endorsed Trump early on. You can bet President Trump will repay him for that loyalty.

Christie would be a better choice of Secretary of State than Romney.

Christie will be superintendent of tolls on the GW Bridge.

That's a cabinet position? Right?

The first 20 names in the phone book would be better than Romney.

“Christie stuck his neck way, way out when he endorsed Trump early on. You can bet President Trump will repay him for that loyalty.”

I believe he will make Christie an offer. DHS might not be a bad pick. My biggest concern about Christie is his apparent cronyism and, perhaps, disloyalty to his minions.

No good. He wouldn’t just “taste”, he’d eat all the food. Trump and family would starve.

what is Gabbard being considered for? Romney is a bad choice, I agree with that. Hopefully Trump listens to those who supported him about that one. I don’t have a problem with Christie at homeland security really, unless I hear good reasons to be against him

Unless him moving on now is better for the NJ GOP in 2017 then it would be best for him to stay put. Trump will have plenty of opportunity to bring him in for future positions. But if Christie wants to be President someday then the best track will be for him to serve out his term, beat Menendez in 2018, do a good job in the Senate, and then run for Prez in 2024 (or have reelection as a backup plan). When Trump succeeds and NJ is doing awesomely economically then it will be a red State in 2024. Now if Menendez doesn’t get beaten by him then there will be plenty of options for him in the Trump administration.

“Gotta believe Christie is leaking this.”

That’s possible. You never know how reliable the rumor mill is. Nevertheless, the names thrown out recently for various posts have not been as solidly conservative as the first few picks.

Maybe it’s sleight of hand to mollify the mushy middle, and solid conservatives will be picked in the end.

Let’s hope so.
