Obama urged Clinton to concede on election night
The Hill ^ | 11/25/16 | AMIE PARNES

Obama’s call left a sour taste in the mouths of some Clinton allies who believe she should have waited longer, and there’s now a fight playing out between the Obama and Clinton camps over whether to support an effort to force the Rust Belt states to recount their votes.

She is still wondering why her vote machine rigging hacks didn’t steal the election for her.

And, Democrats and their media raked Trump over the coals when he said he would make a later decision if he lost.

The rules are ALWAYS different for Democrats. This is sickenly disgusting.

If Clinton won she would be the one running the Democratic party. Since she lost Obama is still in charge. He has already said he will be Carter on steroids. He will probably criticize Trump from day one and attempt to undermine anything Trump tries.

Trump should threaten him with what I believe would be legitimate treason charges if he doesn’t stay quiet. Trump should have a whole deck of cards to play.

“The rules are ALWAYS different for Democrats. This is sickenly disgusting.”

Which, despite natural tendencies to be forgiving and magnanimous, the correct course of action is to go after the Clintons with every arrow in the quiver, and send them into a retirement of obscurity.

So he just decided, out of the blue, to pick up the phone at 1:30am and urge her to concede?

Right.

Can someone educate me, and perhaps others?

Isn’t conceding an election a symbolic act, with no legal standing?

If Hillary had not conceded, the 50 states and DC would still be certifying and officially reporting their results. They would be complying with the legal requirements needed to place their states electors into the electoral college. Each state has their own process. But each state also has deadlines for the processes to be complete. Each state acts independently of the other states.

Whether a candidate has conceded or publicly claims victory, has no hearing on the legal requirements set upon election officialls in the literally thousands of election districts and precincts across the country.

What am I missing? Am I wrong?

Some leader, she thinks she shouldn’t concede and concedes? She even had the night to think it over. Slow decision making process, good thing she wasn’t elected as President

The Clinton team knows all about this, but it’s not clear if they are in on it. Perhaps they are supporting it behind the scenes but don’t want the stigma to fall on the Democrat Party proper.

“A group of prominent computer scientists and election lawyers is reportedly urging Hillary Clinton to seek vote recounts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, arguing they have evidence that the results in those states were hacked or manipulated.

New York Magazine reports that the group includes voting-rights attorney John Bonifaz and J. Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society.

The magazine, quoting an unidentified source, said the experts held a conference call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to make their case last Thursday.

Members of the group did not go public until Friday, when Halderman posted a blog item criticizing aspects of the New York article and making a case for checking ballots to ensure hacking did not occur.

As to whether a cyberattack changed the results of this year’s election, Halderman says, “probably not.”

I can. But it’s also interesting as he must know that Trump would devastate his vaunted “legacy”. Hillary not so much. Plus he would have looked like a fool as he predicted many times that Trump had no chance.

You are correct. Just go back to basics: There’s nothing about “conceding” in the Constitution.

Yes, I believe a concession is symbolic. The states still have to go through the legal requirements of certifying the vote. Usually, a concession is viewed as an admission that you will not contest the results.

Gore conceded the election in 2000, then later un-conceded.
