Attorney general urged to investigate prime minister’s personal involvement in multi-billion shekel purchase, reportedly opposed by defense establishment

A long-time personal lawyer to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is alleged to be at the center of a multi-billion shekel controversy involving Israel’s possible purchase of German submarines with state funds earmarked for security needs.

David Shimron, who has spent years defending Netanyahu against dozens of reports claiming malpractice and misuse of office for personal gain, is being accused of a serious conflict of interest due to his links to the German shipbuilder attempting to sell Israel the vessels.

This is total BS. I don’t think there ever was any doubt that Israel would have the subs built in Germany since Germany is known for subs and heavily subsidizes their purchase because of the holocaust.

Then why employ buddy middlemen?

Also the disagreement was on the number of vessels.
Netanyahu insisted on buying more subs than the military recommended. Apparently so he could earn by each sale through his lawyer buddy.

Let’s see what the investigation will show.
Just remember the conviction of Olmert for his corruption.

These subs are exactly what they should be buying. They need to counter Iran and this is the best they can do.

“Our just normal people fraud.”

I worked for and with Israelis for three years. The level of bribes was astonishing. Everything they did seemed to require a payoff of some sort. There were also all kinds of backhanded things like going home for a vacation but billing for the time as if they had worked. I refused to sign the cards but found out later my boss had signed them. That is how their society works. I would hate to lose Bibi over this, but if we do it is just a political enemy out to get him. As Hillary said, “everybody knew,” which shouldn’t make it okay.

We have the same sort of thing in Chicago. No “connected” politician pays property tax. That’s just the way it is.
