Tommy Hilfiger: Designers should be 'proud' to dress Melania Trump

Tommy Hilfiger: Designers should be 'proud' to dress Melania Trump © Getty Images Tommy Hilfiger says fashion designers should be proud to dress incoming first lady Melania Trump and not politicize the issue.

“I think Melania is a very beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her,” Hilfiger told Women's Wear Daily.

“I don’t think people should become political about it. Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle [Obama] as well. I think they look great in the clothes. You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania.”

Hilfiger's comments come after designer Sophie Theallet said she would refuse to dress the incoming first lady and encouraged others to do the same. She called her boycott a protest to Donald Trump's "racism, sexism and xenophobia."

"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady," Theallet wrote in a letter.

I like much of Tommy’s stuff. He doesn’t make things as cheaply as possible, but seems to make things the way he would like for himself or his family to dress.

No one asked dumb Sophie to dress Melania Trump so her saying she won’t means just another virtue signal from an idiot. If she doesn’t like who our President is she’s free to go home to Paristan.

Ivanka has her own line —why not dress step-mom? Win/win all around....

Actually I’m thinking of becoming the FLOTUS dress designer. Probably the easiest job I’ve ever had. Go over to Wal*Mart, buy a few yards of cloth, run over to the White House and drape it over the lady, and you’re done. She will make anything you put on her look georgous!

If I recall correctly, the "woman" on the left is the teenaged daughter of either the King of Spain or the King of Portugal.

She's not fully grown-up as of the taking of that photo.

I was there when TF was selling bongs and hippie clothes at People’s Place in downtown Elmira, NY. To his credit, he was the only business man to move his inventory to higher elevation when the flood of ‘72 wiped out Elmira. I met him through his brothers Billy and Andy during my band days.

Don’t know about eating disorder, some women are just real slim (my Mother was), what I would call skinny.
My Mother said that’s why I was always attracted to medium to slightly heavy women, as a child I got tired of boney hugs.
The one on the right reminds me of a book title though; “SLOUCHING TO GOMORRAH”, appropriate is it not?

Um ... her step daughter happens to be in contact with the greatest designers on the planet.

Melania will be gorgeous every day no matter the time or the weather.

Solution is for Ivanka’s designers to outfit Melania with a new custom high end line. Melania has the perfect figure and just about anything will look awesome on her.

They stand to make a fortune this way.

I would do it out of spite if designers refuse to dress her for the next 4-8 years.

Capitalize on their nasty attitudes and cost them business.

I agree, unlike her predecessor who looked like she shopped for clothes at the Salvation Army thrift store.

Only the clearance rack.

I still think Michelle was po’d because she got stuck wearing all those awful clothes.

Personally, I think she did it to po BHO. When they were photographed together, there's quite the disconnect between his suits, and her outfits.

OTOH, the fashion industry as a whole put forth the face that MO was the best thing that happened to it since Twiggy.

Why? Cultural marxism. If I was a subscriber to any fashion mags, I would have cancelled them all for their overly fawning praise of MO's [lack of] sense of "fashion" "style".

They should be thankful that the industry doesn't have another term or two of HRC's shopping at Fabric Overstocker's Upholstery & Horse Blanket closeout bin to further damage whatever credibility they might have left by having to praise HRC's 60s-based, antidisestablishmentarianism fashion statements, let alone dealing with a First Lady that has actual fashion experience.

The hissy fit is the equivalent of some kid who works the grill at McD’s saying “As a protest, I refuse to make a burger for Trump.” He didn’t want one of the crappy burgers and she didn’t want one of the crappy dresses.

Tommy Hilfiger is correct.

In fact, designers should be tripping over one another with fashion offers for the gorgeous First Lady Melania ... and perhaps the smarter ones already are.

"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady," [Sophie] Theallet wrote in a letter.

Sounds like the screeches of one who has never been chosen...

Just had to go look.

LOL!!

Sophie, herself a beached whale, probably isn't up to the job, having previously worked on the First Sasquatch, and presumably looking forward to the Greatest Almost First Woman President...

That is Princess Letizia, of Spain.

Now Queen of Spain.

They dressed a pig for 8 years, they should feel BLESSED to dress someone who won’t make them look foolish.
