I was 6 at the time and had just arrived in Canada a month prior. I really didn’t have any concept of the United States or the President. My only memory of that time was watching a bit of the funeral on a black and white tv and apparently it was someone important. A 6 year old doesn’t really have a good grasp on death either. A little over a year later I do recall the banner headline in a local paper for Winston Churchill saying Man of the Century dies at 90. That headline was true then as it is today.

My first memory of a TV show is Winston Churchill’s funeral. I’m sure it wasn’t live, and I didn’t know who he was, but it was a big deal and it stayed with me. Great man.
