A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 has struck off the coast of Fukushima in northeast Japan, prompting a tsunami warning for local coastlines, seismologists say.
The earthquake, which struck at 6:01 a.m. local time on Tuesday, was centered in the ocean about 61 kilometers (38 miles) southeast of Namie in Fukushima Prefecture. It struck at a depth of just 10 kilometers, making it a very shallow earthquake.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) put the preliminary magnitude of the earthquake at 7.3. Strong shaking was felt across Fukushima, with shaking of lesser intensity across other parts of the island, as far away as the capital Tokyo.
As a result of the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for Fukushima Prefecture. "Evacuate immediately from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safer place such as high ground or an evacuation building," JMA said.
Uh oh....time to go.
I’m in Texas, but I’m heading for high ground anyway.
6:01 AM?
I think the February 9, 1971 Sylmar earthquake in L.A. also hit at 6:01 AM.
38 miles Southeast of Fukushima is barely, if at all, off the coast. I doubt there will be any threat of tsunami. Thought it doesn’t hurt to be careful.

Though...skip that. The Daiichi plant is right on the water. I was looking at Fukushima Prefecture.
Good memory, I just remember waking up on the floor and bouncing of the walls walking down the hallway.
Dems are saying:Trump’s fault...
I was a kid living on Long Island, NY at the time.
Two and a half years I was living in the L.A. area, and people were still talking about that quake.
That should read, “Two and a half years LATER I was living in the L.A. area...”
