I would like to have the word “entitlements” clarified. I paid all of my life into FICA and Medicare. I was an employer and paid that side for my employees. I am ENTITLED to my money back.

Your feelings are mirrored by tens of millions of others. And that's why Social Security and Medicare are the third rails of politics.

Also enforce immigration laws. Illegal aliens flooding across our open borders, and the import of Muslim ‘Refugees’ (colonists) are costing the U.S trillions in welfare.

Re-instating a work requirement could be considered leaving entitlements alone. It could change the whole curve of how much people get for doing nothing.

I doubt by 85 year old grandmother could have filled a work requirement, what with her hip and her Alzheimer's. So would she have lost her Social Security and Medicare?

With a stroke of the pen, eliminate any agency formed by the stroke of the pen.

I agree with the author that the sequester worked. Unfortunately, Trump and Pence have vowed to end the sequester on military spending. We’re not up against the Soviet Union anymore. Spending isn’t the issue in fighting Islam. We’re already massively outspending them.

Trump has also vowed not to touch Medicare or Social Security. And he says he wants to keep coverage for pre-existing conditions in his health plan, which is the primary source of Obamacare’s costs.

I don’t see where the cuts are going to come from. Congress just tried to reinstate earmarks and Ryan said to “hold off” on that for now.

All signs point to a repeat of the Bush administration fiscal policy, with tons of “conservative” spending increases for the military and status quo or more spending on health care and little to no cuts in anything.

Trump has said he’ll pay for his spending by revitalizing the economy and increasing tax revenue. You can’t solve a budget crisis on hope.

And I have a feeling if Trump manages to repatriate overseas corporate profits as a one-time deal that the Congress will go hog-wild spending the money. But the ONLY responsible thing to do with a one-time windfall revenue is to pay off debt. I haven’t heard Trump or anyone say that’s what would be done with that revenue.

If you think bold it is actually quite easy. Take the entire budget for the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services and block grant it to the states. Then reduce it by 10% of this total every year for the next ten years. This would gradually transfer this responsibility to the states where it belongs constitutionally.

I’m not against helping people in need but this freebie stuff is over the top.

I take exception to that if the "need" is self-created, The "hand up" too frequently turns into the handout.

Paul Ryan loves plans that cut debt in 10 years. Then two wars, a market crash and a recession later, the plans never seem to come to fruition as advertised.

We must be careful that the need to monitor the work requirement to determine continued eligibility does not lead to creation of more bureaucracy. The same with the necessary child care, which can not be unmonitored. And then the layer of oversight, as in "who watches the watchers?"

Government spending may not add value, but it is a component of the GDP. That's why cutting government spending is a tough sell. If government spending is reduced the GDP necessarily recedes by that amount.

GDP = C + I + G + (X - M) or GDP = private consumption + gross investment + government investment + government spending + (exports - imports)

If you were to cut $1 trillion in government spending, without a corresponding increase in private sector growth, the GDP would reckon that as a recession - even as the reduction might be beneficial

Two weeks into his bombing run Hussein eliminated the work requirement. I'm sure not a single government job was lost. So for 8 years the bureaucracy has been collecting a paycheck. Trump can put some of them back to work, and ditch the rest.

There are plenty of departments to shut down. EPA, Education, Commerce, IRS with passage of flat tax, plus many more by turning responsibility back to the states.

A couple good steps to save money would be to abolish the EPA. Abolish the Dept. of Education. Think of the salaries and government retirements that would save!

Only if you think like an open borders RINO or Democrat.

The federal funding for all the "Sanctuary Cities," states and counties will give Trump a substancial start of HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS.

"Sanctuary cities risk billions in defiance of Trump" - CNN

The article neither gives the number of billions or even lists the cities/counties - but it says "New York {City alone} could stand to lose close to $10.4 billion in federal funds, according to budget documents sent from the City Council Speaker's office."

The closest we came was in 2013 when the federal government spent a little more than two percent less than in 2012, mostly accomplished with cuts in defense spending and a drop in unemployment benefits after the recession
HA! Who is the bigger fool? The person writing this pretending to be an economist or the person posting this as a legitimate study?

Eliminate baseline budgeting. Easy 1st step.

That alone would eliminate the expected half $T for fy18, but my first thot is if it were "easy" how come no one's done it and my other is that why doesn't T ever mention it?

Cut out the fraud. I see allot of very fat people ( mainly Mexicans) using food stamps or food assistance cards at the store. Ecards used at fast food is a joke.

I sincerely doubt he thinks it will be easy.

But the fact that it will be difficult is not an excuse for failing to at least try.

Because the Congress does not really want Fiscal Responsibility. Remember DJT is not a political junkie like us. He probably has never heard of it. However, I am amazed at how fast a learner he is.

He probably has never heard of it.

My bet is he's heard of it and understands that darn few voters have --so it doesn't matter to him.  It matters to us tho because we care about spending and we know what's happening.  I'd guess that spending will go up and his supporters won't blame DJT.
