Just not the guy I would pick to drain the swamp. Seems to me it would be business as usual with Mitt at State. Over the VA, now that would make some sense.

Romney didn’t keep his trap shut!

He was saying all the BS on why TRUMP wouldn’t release his taxes!

“inactive consideration”

Yes, I was under active consideration for the VP slot. Trump looked at it, considered it and took action. "NO! Next..."

What people need to figure out is that Trump will fire, and fire promptly if it is not working out.

Keep your enemies close..

Bull. The Secretary Of Sate isn't a position to keep "an eye on" Romney. Romney is pure establishment who had little impact on the election even though he pulled out all the stops and rallied vehemently against Trump. If Romney does become Secretary Of State, it is because Trump and Romney share views & policies and our new direction diplomatically. This "keep your enemy's closer" meme is tired. Romney is insignificant in the larger scheme of things and has been marginalized, not needing of "watching" because...who cares?

I’m with you. I think this is all mere show for Trump to keep the globalist wing happy. I still think Trump will name an unknown for that position and he’ll run foreign affairs essentially from the White House.

Mitt for VA is a great idea! Secretary of Transportation would also do.

Secretary of State ... on the one hand, you want the true plums to go loyalists, but on the other hand, but for Executive Order capacity, the Trump Presidency depends upon Sasse, McCain, Graham, Lee, and the other non-supporters in the US Senate supporting him. Sending them an “all (or at least most) is forgiven” message isn’t bad politics by any means, and Mitt for SoS epitomizes that.

I like Mitt for this job. It keeps him out of the country a lot.

Who cares if Romney is in or out of the country? He's been marginalized. The establishment RINO's tried and failed to stop Trump. I saw "good riddance" to Romney and everything he stands for, and let Trump pick someone who shares his views diplomatically.

Yeah, and not only that but Bolton still has a 1974 haircut too, plus I hear around here that he's not necessarily all that a pleasant person pleasant to work for.

No one who's tainted by the Bushes, if you ax me.

Milt, OTOH, is just plain ol' ambitious and untrustworthy, maybe not quiet as slithery as St. Ted of Calgary.

Question: could there be a backstory here about unifying the Republican party against the opposition and the media?

Or, Trump could just simplify matters and choose someone else.

All of the worst foreign policy decisions of the George W. Bush Administration have Bolton’s finger-prints all over them. The craven failure to hold the Saudis accountable for 9/11. The incompetence of the Afghanistan war. The magical thinking that conceived of the Iraq war and the dreadful execution and mostly dire result of the occupation.

Yes. We got as President the dream of Amy lifetime. There is no evidence at all that Trump is sellin out. To the contrary he is sticking to his principles.

He is a better negotiator than any of us. I trust him to make the right choice. If he believes that Romney should be his Secretary of State then I will support that choice. There is no evidence of which I am aware tha Romney has an international vision that is different from that of Trump or the rest of us. I realize that his father was born in Mexico but I am not aware of Romney spouting globalist ideas.

Again, I voted for Trump. If he should pick Romney, that in itself will not cause me to lose hope in our President-elect.

Nice to hear from another sane person - of course, the sanity is my judgement and contingent on me being sane enough to make the call ;-)

Thanks

The job of Secretary of State is basically to travel the world wining and dinning with foreign dignitaries.

Presidents have a long history of selecting people that they want to dispatch overseas.

Nixon picked Kissinger who opposed him in favor of Rockefeller, Bush picked Powell who was thinking of running for president, Obama picked Hillary, etc.

I think the meeting with Mitt was just to put the campaign fights away.

Pence did say that Trump and Romney met alone for 30 minutes yesterday. I imagine that Trump asked about his nasty attack considering that he wasn’t in the race.

I seriously doubt that Romney will be selected for State.
