PSALM 100 ~ THANKSGIVING
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Hi Kathy!
Mrs. Henkster and I usually host Thanksgiving for the clan, and I read Psalm 100 before the prayer every year. Then I ask every member of the henkster clan present to say what they have been thankful for this year. I cannot think of a more fitting way start the Thanksgiving meal.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

Resting up today and tomorrow. I missed Thursday's practice and we won't have practice next Thursday. But I'm looking forward to it picking up after Thanksgiving.

Sacrificial Faith
November 20, 2016
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10
Its Sunday afternoon, and Im sitting in the garden of our home, which is near the church where my husband is the minister. I hear wafts of praise and worship music floating through the air in the Farsi language. Our church in London hosts a vibrant Iranian congregation, and we feel humbled by their passion for Christ as they share some of their stories of persecution and tell of those, such as the senior pastors brother, who have been martyred for their faith. These faithful believers are following in the footsteps of the first Christian martyr, Stephen.
Stephen, one of the first appointed leaders in the early church, garnered attention in Jerusalem when he performed great wonders and signs (Acts 6:8) and was brought before the Jewish authorities to defend his actions. He gave an impassioned defense of the faith before describing the hard-heartedness of his accusers. But instead of repenting, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him (7:54). They dragged him from the city and stoned him to deatheven as he prayed for their forgiveness.
The stories of Stephen and modern martyrs remind us that the message of Christ can be met with brutality. If we have never faced persecution for our faith, lets pray for the persecuted church around the world. And may we, if and when tested, find grace to be found faithful to the One who suffered so much more for us.
Lord God, we believe You weep at the pain and anguish some of Your children experience because they love You. We pray that You will strengthen them in the midst of their suffering and send them Your grace.
May we find grace to walk in the Masters steps.
The name Stephen comes from the Greek word stephanos, which refers to a victors crown awarded in the ancient games. Stephens final words show how victorious he was. Acts 7:60 reads, Then he fell on his knees and cried out, Lord, do not hold this sin against them. Even in the midst of a painful and unjust death, Stephen displayed a spirit of victory that reflected Jesuss heart when dying on the cross (Luke 23:34). He also had a proven character. In Acts 6, when Stephen is selected to assist with the widows ministry, he is described as a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit (Acts 6:5). Stephen lived a life of faith under the control of the Spirit.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
