The sneering response to Trump’s victory reveals exactly why he won
The Spectator ^ | 11-9-16 | Brendan O'Neill

Posted on 11/18/2016 2:18:51 PM PST by bigbob

f you want to know why Trump won, just look at the response to his winning. The lofty contempt for ‘low information’ Americans. The barely concealed disgust for the rednecks and cretins of ‘flyover’ America who are apparently racist and misogynistic and homophobic. The haughty sneering at the vulgar, moneyed American political system and how it has allowed a wealthy candidate to poison the little people’s mushy, malleable minds. The suggestion that American women, more than 40 per cent of whom are thought to have voted for Trump, suffer from internalised misogyny: that is, they don’t know their own minds, the poor dears. The hysterical, borderline apocalyptic claims that the world is now infernally screwed because ‘our candidate’, the good, pure person, didn’t get in.

This response to Trump’s victory reveals why Trump was victorious. Because those who do politics these days — the political establishment, the media, the academy, the celeb set — are so contemptuous of ordinary people, so hateful of the herd, so convinced that the mass of society cannot be trusted to make political decisions, and now those ordinary people have given their response to such top-down sneering and prejudice.

Oh, the irony of observers denouncing Middle America as a seething hotbed of hatred even as they hatefully libel it a dumb and ugly mob. Having turned America’s ‘left behind’ into the butt of every clever East Coast joke, and the target of every handwringing newspaper article about America’s dark heart and its strange, Bible-toting inhabitants, the political and cultural establishment can’t now be surprised that so many of those people have turned around and said… well, it begins with F and ends with U.

Good piece, congrats to the author for having figured this out in time to post this analysis on the day after the election when most of his peers were still trying to figure out what had just happened.

There are millions of “low information” liberals, too.

Most of them in decrepit and decaying Democrat run cities.

I would like to see a map of low information voters and HIGH information voters. My guess is Trump took the HIGH information voters by a YUGE margin. Seems Hillary took the urban decayed areas.

As one commenter said, they can’t understand this wasn’t a rejection of a woman in the White House, it was a rejection of one particular woman. And a conscious desire to return America to it’s former greatness and reverse the course Obama has put us on and Clintion would continue.

All the left has to do to analyze their losses is to look in the mirror, like right now.

They only piss, moan, whine, bitch and call people names.

Who that is not a lunatic wants to be on that team?

Good Gawd, they are disgusting infants.

Trump’s inaugural ball should be called the “Deploraball.”

Worst of all, the arrogance of the elites who decided that Hillary should be president and that anyone who disagreed was a clod, a bumpkin, or an ingrate. After all, they had volunteered to step up and make our decision for us. How dare we not appreciate that?

The Campaign is OVER...WE, the American Voter have picked our Next POTUS and V.POTUS...

If you want to wave the Mexican Flag then go to Mexico and that includes any other Flag other than the American Flag...

99.9% of the people protesting don’t even have a clue what they are protesting about, are getting paid off Craig’s List to do so...and handed a ‘printed sign’ to wave around...

So either get back to class where your parents are paying you to attend, or get the hell out of America...and go protest somewhere else...WE DON’T WANT YOU!!!

A lot of their low information types are highly educated, ivy league grads who should be a lot less low information, but aren't. They just think they are because they've gotten into and graduated from schools that are supposed to make you smarter.......

Wow. How often have I seen the very same sentiments toward the American electorate--the American people--stated here on FR?

I reminded The Spectator that the United States of America is not a democracy. Or even a Democracy. We live in a Constitutional Republic.

To borrow a phrase:

“A ballot or a bullet! If I can’t vote with one then I’ll vote with the other!”

Those who would take away our vote should pay heed.

I'm enjoying the shrieking more than I thought I would, because there's so much more of it than I thought there would be. I don't recall quite this level of hysteria when Reagan was elected the first time, in fact, nothing even close.

I think there was a collective assumption on the part of the Hillary supporters that they had it locked and have since 2012: the media, the pundits, the power brokers, the big money, the opinion cartel. Even after a major portion of the party opted for Bernie and was outraged at the treatment given him and them, the published feeling was very much on the order of inevitability, of the ineluctable and irresistible progress of history that could not be denied. Self-delusion can be cruel.

At no point was there any sense of accommodation to the ideas and aspirations of the other side; these had long been declared out of bounds as racist, sexist, eighteen other forms of bigotry that were made up for the occasion - who would accommodate such perfidy? This is the idealism of children or fanatics. It isn't a virtue. But then it isn't necessary either unless those opponents have a ghost of a chance actually of winning. But there wasn't - that was the lullaby of political certitude and the siren song of media who were and remain convinced that truth was whatever they declared it was. Forward, Comrades, ever forward! Never mind about the cliff ahead.

Hence the strange conviction that the losers can still make the rules and call the game according to them. "Trump MUST" do this or that, Trump MUST bend, MUST do the outreach to his opponents, MUST be the one to adopt their precepts and programs. Well, why? Or else? Or else what?

That is exactly right and Michael Moore of all people saw it coming and warned the left and they laughed at him.

The left seems to forget there are only two ways this can work: they can either accept the will of the people and allow those “low information voters” their fair say in the direction of the country, or they can try to disenfranchise them and see if they can beat the citizenry in a shooting war. They like to imagine there is some magical third option where they can take political power away from people without inciting a revolt.

I thought Greg Gutfeld said it very well last week, that “small-town Americans got tired of having their values mocked”.

I saw a map on another FR thread showing the blue areas vs high crime areas. The Hildebeast did capture the Urban Blight vote.
