You would think that the people down there would be all over him, what with their “southern conservatism” and all.

What little bit of clout you have has to come from the Senate. Your home state does not support you as you can tell by the way they supported your Presidential effort. A good candidate next election will wrap up your career in the Senate. Get out of the way and quit being Mc’Cains butt boy.
All Trump has to do is enforce the law.

Graham and McCain stupidly marginalized themselves with their never Trump tantrums. Now there is a GOP POTUS and they won’t have near the influence they could have had.
Every primary year he comes up, the R field is swamped with straw candidates that are set up to divide the conservative votes that Linda wouldn't get.
Then, the D's come out and vote for him (crossover), because it's an open primary, and the D's aren't going to oppose him in the general anyway — he's their guy.
