LAPD will not help deport immigrants under Trump, chief says

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Monday that he has no plans to change the LAPD’s stance on immigration enforcement, despite President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to toughen federal immigration laws and deport millions of people upon taking office.

For decades, the LAPD has distanced itself from federal immigration policies. The LAPD prohibits officers from initiating contact with someone solely to determine whether they are in the country legally, mandated by a special order signed by then-chief Daryl Gates in 1979. During Beck’s tenure as chief, the department stopped turning over people arrested for low-level crimes to federal agents for deportation and moved away from honoring federal requests to detain inmates who might be deportable past their jail terms.

they make it sound like Trump is changing immigration law, all he is going to do is enforce it.

Plus, why keep these criminals? It doesn’t make any sense.

Congress needs to make it a federal offence for any government employee - federal, state or municipal, who fails to provide information about illegals to federal enforcement.

Hopefully they don't rely on any federal funding in the city. That is going to be frozen as long as they fail to comply.

cut them off TOTALLY..!

I live in Calif and I cannot WAIT until this also happens to San Fran, San Jose and Santa Cruz.

I was once in traffic court, the first ticket guy was Mexican and his offence was driving with no license:

Judge asks the whole court at once, “Raise your hand if you are here for the same offense” —maybe HALF or more of the people seated raised there hands.

“I am excusing all your tickets, line up in front of the court officer...”

BOOM! That was that..!

Can you believe it..?

And whats with all these loudmouths spouting off to the media that they won’t help enforce an already existing law? LAPD chief hasn’t dealt with AJ Guiliani (fingers crossed) yet.

I mean, he really doesn’t have any idea.

Then deploy federal officers in a sweep, city by city rounding ‘em up. Feds don’t need any help. But some federal policing grants to big cities may have to be curtailed to help pay for the sweeps.

Yank any funding the city gets. And make it clear they better not interfere with the Federal officers and Sheriffs.

Trump will not have time to do the fun stuff UNTIL he can reassert the RULE OF LAW. Did he realize this when he ran a right-wing candidacy? I hope so...
