Have you heard anything more on whether the House will try to run the speakership vote through on this next Tuesday?

I can’t dig up any more references on whether it will take place or not.

The coming session is after a recess and is not a new session. There will be party caucuses to propose the leaders for the next Congress. The next Congress will accept them or not. Nothing officially binds the vote of the next Congress.

The GOP will propose staying with the status quo. Senate Democrats will propose a replacement for the retiring Reid.

There was talk of a ‘motion to vacate’ to challenge the Speaker in this session, but it would simply be wasting time as the new Congress wouldn’t be bound.
