I would have studied Medical Coding in college, and then after I got my degree I would have studied Accounting. That way when I was forced to quit school I would have had a fallback plan in place.

I would have waited 6 months before buying my land. The seller went bankrupt, and the lot next to mine sold for 1/3rd what I paid, for the same size property.

I would have gone to the hospital right away when I got sick that summer, instead of waiting until I collapsed and had to be carried. It turned out to be a mild infection, but the symptoms were so subtle I tried to power through them.

I would have gone to the chiropractor when I started having dizzy spells in 2008. Instead, it took almost 2 years and tens of thousands of dollars in tests, when it was a simple misalignment in my neck that was causing the problem. Even then, we discovered the cause by accident. None of the doctors I saw caught it.

I would have driven to Cleveland when I lost my voice in 2011. I was mute for 3 years, and went through more tests and doctors, got yelled at and accused of making it up, only to eventually discover that it was a simple problem, that a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic was able to fix in an hour.

I would never have trusted my father for anything.

Gotten a computer science degree in 1973 the way I wanted, instead of listening to my mother, who knew nothing about computers and who had decided I was the world’s brightest chemist.

What’s wrong with chemistry?
It’s cool, be a computational chemist!

Likewise, I would have invested in Microsoft days after it went public. Instead I gave into the vague fear of not knowing how to invest.

taken computer classes in late 80’s-90’s or even early 2000’s instead of continually resisting and thinking it was some stupid fad that would never amount to much or really catch on.

The major problem is that in effect you would not be the person your are presently.

Those experiences changed you little, by little, into the person you are. There are things we need to ask forgiveness for, there are things we want not to have done, but the choice of what you might change, hopefully will not destroy the person you are.

“My Way”

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way

[instrumental]

Yes, it was my way

I would have been a bit less independent.

I would have spent more time on fun things instead of always being the provider.

No one really loves the provider, they love the fun one.

Not a thing. I have had and continue to have a very good life. God has been right with me the whole way. Two wonderful children, too!

Probably allowing my much younger self to be pressured into hanging out with co-workers who were all older and spent too much time in the local bars, restaurants and other places where it was too easy to lose track of time, and that we did!

Wisdom is wasted on the old.

1. Wouldn't have gotten spooked by a 10% drop in Apple stock when I invested in it in 2005 and sold it off quickly. It has gone up about 21x in value since then.

2. Would have taken the layoff in a company which went through some very rough times. I rode it out many years and ended up losing my job anyway after many bad years.

3. Wouldn't have voted for Hillary last Tuesday.

4. Wouldn't have frightened or angered so many Freepers by joking about #3. :-)

Not sure what I would change!

If I had done things differently I wouldn’t be the same person pounding on this Surface. I might be better I might be worse, but I wouldn’t be the same. My “experiences” and my “reactions” to them both successful and those not so successful contributed to the persona of the person pounding on this Surface.

Maybe I would have joined a cult .. you know bought Apple products!

I would have married the Italian girl.

My father did that and it was his biggest regret.
