North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory said in a news release Thursday that he was declaring a state of emergency for one-quarter of North Carolina's 100 counties. He said the declaration will help with evacuations and provide more state assets to fight the wildfires and support those who were evacuated.

As eastern North Carolina was underwater due to flooding from Hurricane Matthew, the western part of the state has been suffering from a severe drought and now hundreds of acres are burning, said Governor McCrory.

He did by .1% of vote it still hasn’t been called yet
Praying he wins.
We must be neighbors. I was wondering where all the smoke was from, too.
Hope you and your homes and families all safe
The way they fight fires these days is ridiculous. They just let em burn
Arson = Terrorism...
God bless you! Multiple skilled teams with hundreds of firefighters, plus choppers and planes, are here from all over - NC appreciates you!!
Record drought conditions - multiple fires, arson suspected in nearly all. New flareups now appearing almost every day; wind has at times been a problem.
Largest is now around 8500 acres and expected to merge with nearby 2500 acre fire tonight or tomorrow. Two others are 6-7000 acres.
We need rain — lots of it — and soon.
Thanks. We are in no danger. There’s a thick haze in the air today and smells acrid. Drove out to the apple orchards to get some juice. That area is about 10 miles from one of the blazes that is at 1000 acres now.
The smoke was so thick over there you couldn’t see the surrounding hills a mile away.
We must be neighbors. I was wondering where all the smoke was from, too.
Im on the border of Gwinnett and Hall counties. Saw two big fires yesterday up in the Clayton area.
That's where I am. I didn't realize till this afternoon the fires were west of here, too.
My bad!
Goddess of Liberty
It was bad today. Maybe 3/4 mile visibility across the valley. Sunset had no sky color just a blood red sun in a field of gray. And my clothes smell like smoke from just being outside.
