What a moron! You can get another car. There’s nothing life-threatening about someone stealing your car unless one of your children is in it when it was taken and then it would be doubly stupid to shoot into it.
Can he get another car? If someone stole my truck with my tools, it would be devastating at this point in my life. He will have stolen a lot more than material goods. Furthermore, when someone takes your property, they take your dignity, they essentially make you a slave to their desire. I think those are things worth fighting to preserve. This guy made a big mistake. One’s response needs to be measured.
He should be able to defend his property as he defends his life. Unfortunately he probably did not train properly and will have to live with the consequences. The thief should face charges for the life lost though. It was that malcontent’s actions that led to a presumably innocent third party dying.
I hear your lame argument all the time and it does not gain validity with the passage of time. Your property is earned by expenditure of labor and time on your part. That labor and the time expended in labor can not ever be recovered. When you steal from someone, you steal their time, therefore part of their life which can not be redeemed. There should be no requirement in law for fear of life before you shoot someone. Fear of loosing part of your life should be sufficient.
He can get another car, sure. Can he get back that time of his life spent earning that car? Why should some thief have a “right” to that?
