Senior FBI officials were told of new emails in early October but wanted more information before renewing Clinton probe
Senior FBI officials were informed about the discovery of new emails potentially relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server at least two weeks before Director James B. Comey notified Congress, according to federal officials familiar with the investigation.
The officials said that Comey was told that there were new emails before he received a formal briefing last Thursday, although the precise timing is unclear.
The information goes beyond the details provided in the letter that Comey sent to lawmakers last week declaring that he was restarting the inquiry into whether Clinton mishandled classified material during her tenure as secretary of state. He wrote in the Friday letter that “the investigative team briefed me yesterday” about the additional emails.
The people familiar with the investigation said that senior officials had been informed weeks earlier that a computer belonging to former congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) contained emails potentially pertinent to the Clinton investigation. Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, shared the computer with her husband, from whom she is now separated.
Comey did not notify Congress as soon as he learned about the emails because officials wanted additional information before proceeding, the officials said.

I watched the docu “Weiner” last night. I’d forgotten that back after the first scandal Hillary had given Uma an ultimatum - divorce or me (a Time mag cover?). I bet Anthony never forgot that threat and that is why he ended up with his golden goose computer - “life insurance” indeed.
Once they knew they had ANY emails that were from Hillary's server, they should have immediately applied for a warrant to look at them.
This "keep looking at the metadata for a while" was just a delaying tactic by Comey and McCabe to drag it out past the election, and the NYC FBI agents decided they weren't going to swallow that.
The Post is pretending that they think the FBI just “gets” a warrant because they’re curious even when they don’t know what they might find. A simple google search shows that to be false. To get a warrant, the FBI and the Justice department together had to show a judge facts to meet the following standard:
“A judge issues a search warrant to authorize law enforcement officers to search a particular location and seize specific items. To obtain a search warrant, police must show probable cause that a crime was committed and that items connected to the crime are likely to be found in the place specified by the warrant.”

I take that to mean he tried to figure out how to quash the new information and realized that was impossible because too many people knew and he was already facing a near mutiny. Of course I may have Comey all wrong. Perhaps he’s a patriot with a method to his madness.
Washington Post has known of Clinton corruption since 1992. Still refuses to report.
