Black Turnout Falls in Early Voting, Boding Ill for Hillary Clinton
The New York Times ^ | 01 Nov 2016 | JEREMY W. PETERS, RICHARD FAUSSET and MICHAEL WINES

African-Americans are failing to vote at the robust levels they did four years ago in several states that could help decide the presidential election, creating a vexing problem for Hillary Clinton as she clings to a deteriorating lead over Donald J. Trump with Election Day just a week away.

As tens of millions of Americans cast ballots in what will be the largest-ever mobilization of early voters in a presidential election, the numbers have started to point toward a slump that many Democrats feared might materialize without the nation’s first black president on the ticket.

The reasons for the decline appear to be both political and logistical, with lower voter enthusiasm and newly enacted impediments to voting at play. In North Carolina, where a federal appeals court accused Republicans of an “almost surgical” assault on black turnout and Republican-run election boards curtailed early-voting sites, black turnout is down 16 percent. White turnout, however, is up 15 percent. Democrats are planning an aggressive final push, including a visit by President Obama to the state on Wednesday.

But in Florida, which extended early voting after long lines left some voters waiting for hours in 2012, African-Americans’ share of the electorate that has gone to the polls in person so far has decreased, to 15 percent today from 25 percent four years ago.

The problems for Democrats do not end there. In Ohio, which also cut back its early voting, voter participation in the heavily Democratic areas near Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo has been down, though the Clinton campaign said it was encouraged by a busy day on Sunday when African-American churches led voter drives across the state.

Maybe some ACORN members will volunteer to vote FOR the blacks who don’t?

I am not the first to say this. Black men are not going to vote for Hillary Clinton.

Also, Black men admire Trump because:

A: He’s an alpha male
and
B: He’s rich

Curtailing early voting: Mean old republicans suppressing turnout by not dropping the ballot into people’s laps for them.

The only surprising thing about this is that anyone is surprised. I get that the blacks who actually vote side heavily with the Dims. But Cankles is not Obummer. There’s no allegiance to her from the rank-and-file blacks that I can see. This has historically been a demographic with low voter turnout. ‘08 and ‘12 were outliers for an obvious reason.

Inner city African Americans don’t need to vote, I’m told their votes are already counted for Hillary so they can stay home :)

The New York Times is already preparing for the Trump victory next Tuesday. For the next four years they will claim his election was just an aberration because the democrats choose an “old white person” who didn't appeal to the minorities, and all the democrat party needs to do to win is run another far-left minority candidate in the image of Obama.

I’m not getting my hopes up until the morning after the election. Hillary can generate black turnout by simply stuffing the ballot box in inner city precincts. That’s what the Dems usually do and the GOP has been pathetic at stopping them.

'But this election could determine if the Obama-era level of participation among blacks is sustainable. It could also show that the Democratic Party, which has benefited enormously from population shifts that have left the country more diverse, is facing a demographic reckoning of its own.'

It will be interesting going forward, with the black population flat lining and whites in decline, along with the boom in other minorities. And soon to be white minority.

Their prediction percentage for Hillary winning goes down every day. I don’t know if Trump will win, but it is something to see.

No way she wins with losing 15% of the AA vote.

Also, Trump is getting a good size of that vote as well.

For the GOP to thrive, they have to continue to build that base of socially conservative Latinos and even Asian. There are plenty. Right now, IMO, this segment is still a single-issue voting bloc. We can change that with the soundness of our policies that align to their core beliefs.

Obviously, the headline writer didn’t read the story.

NYT bends over backwards to hold out hope that Hillary’s ground game can still drag African American voters to the polls.

Simultaneously, the story lays the predicate that, should Hillary lose, it will be because Republicans kept Blacks from voting.

“The only surprising thing about this is that anyone is surprised.”

Well, it IS surprising that NYT is reporting it, PARTICULARLY because they’ve emphasized that “it bodes ill for Hillary”, but yeah, no one who’s been paying attention is otherwise surprised.

And even worse for Hillary, both polls and anecdotal evidence indicate that for those blacks who DO vote, a substantial percentage will be voting for Trump, which if this actually pans out, means Trump is already starting the unifying, racial healing of the horrific divides deliberately pursued by obama and the Democrats in general.

It would mean that MANY blacks are paying careful attention and do NOT want an evil, corrupt person running our country and are willing to vote for someone in the party that they’ve traditionally voted against.
