Halloween means revelry but in the District this year it also signified robbery.
Four violent street robberies were reported Monday night in affluent [white] sections of Northwest Washington.
Robberies were reported in the West End, in Georgetown, and in the Woodley Park area, all neighborhoods that are generally considered to be safe.
All four involved groups of youths. It was not known whether any of the youths was involved in more than one of the robberies. However, similarities existed among all four, and the times given would have made it possible for several youths to participate in all of the incidents.
In the West End robbery a man was walking in the 2400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue while talking on his cell phone. Youths knocked him down, according to a police report, kicked and punched him and took his phone,.
Later, a robbery was reported about 10 p.m. in the 2300 block of Cathedral Avenue NW in the Woodley Park area. Police were told that about 10 people participated, both males and females. No ages were given. In contrast to the other robberies, an initial report said a gun was used.
In the second Woodley Park incident, a woman was getting out of her car about 10:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of 29th Street, when two youths emerged from a group of about 15.
They grabbed her by her hair and, pushed her against the vehicle. They demanded her cell phone, according to the police report, got it and fled.
The fourth of the robberies occurred about 15 minutes later, in Georgetown, police were told. In t hat robbery, which was reported in t he 3400 block of Prospect Street NW, the victim told police that from 15 to 20 youths, male and female, took part.
The victim, a Georgetown University student, said he was on foot and the group came towards him.
One of the youths called out: Look what I can do, and punched the victim in the back of the head.
With the man knocked to the ground, other members of the group punched and kicked him. The first robber took the students wallet from his pocket and took two backpacks from him.
Nothing to see here...move along. Just some black yuts trick or treating.
A late Detoit Devils Night?
Why are we allowed to say they are “youths” but aren’t allowed to provide any more detailed descriptions of the perpetrators?
Forced Hellary donations.
At least it wasn’t South West.
“...all neighborhoods that are generally considered to be safe.”
One student interviewed on TV said that after 6:00pm, he really needs to be alert. Another student wanted better coordination among the universities’ cops and DC police to patrol the area more effectively at night.
The only consolation is, this is a heavily Liberal area. Most people in that area work for the government (White House, etc). Their enclave is not as safe as it used to be ...
Just more overly energetic “youths.” The media is too stupid to know that term is a neon sign that what actually happened.
It’s unfortunate. Georgetown is lovely around Halloween, like a movie set.
But DC’s self-defense laws being what they are means unilateral disarmament among the law-abiding, while the thugs are free to go wilding.
Wow...youths are dangerous
Not clicking on a WaPoo anything.
Did the article offer a physical description of the Yutes?
Well, sometimes you have to learn how to take your azz-kickin if you are going to live in liberal-land. Think of it as a perk of living there.
“Look honey, this neighborhood has free azz-kickings. We don’t have to go downtown for them anymore.”
Too bad no Congressmen were robbed.
