Venezuela's opposition-led parliament has delayed the symbolic trial of President Nicolas Maduro, which was due to take place on Tuesday.

The speaker of the National Assembly said the decision was aimed at easing the country's political crisis.

An opposition march on the presidential palace planned for Thursday has also been postponed.

President Maduro is accused of violating the constitution but claims MP's are attempting a "coup".

The efforts of Pope Francis and Barack Obama have 'paid off' for the Marxist-Leninist regime in Venezuela.

After Vatican mediation and the arrival of U.S. diplomat Tom Shannon in the country, the opposition is backing away from a legislative trial for President Maduro and a march on his palace.

November 12th is the 'deadline' for mediation to produce results.

The view from blogger Daniel Duquenal is generally pessimistic with a lot of sarcasm thrown in as you read down through all of his latest post.

Wasn’t Maduro voted out of office last year?
IIRC there were questions whether he would give up power.

No, he wasn't voted out. You are, perhaps, thinking of the last parliamentary elections where the opposition was victorious over the ruling party. Maduro has since then stripped Parliament of any real power.

The opposition won the legislative elections even with a gerrymandered rigged system of seat distribution.

Maduro has used the courts he packed to stymie all efforts against him and the other week an effort to launch a recall election to remove him from office was shot down by the regime controlled election commission.

Got it, thanks.
I remembered some kind of hanky-panky after a ruling party loss.
