Of course the electorate was different back in 1980. Today we have more 3rd world immigrants for example. In 1980, CA went for Reagan. That’s unlikely to happen this year.

Notice how all the Reagan states were blue?

The reason for the flip to show dim states as blue is that red historically has been associated with radicals and communism.

Media couldn't have that imagery so they flipped them.

Shepard Smith breathlessly reported it was Hillary up 11 in Indiana, until his guest pointed out they had it reversed.

In all of politics, the one place I’d have liked to have been was on AIR FORCE ONE that Monday night flying back to DC when Pat told Jimmuh it was over, they had no chance. I’d have paid all I had at the time to have watched PEANUT BRAIN react.

I remember 1980 but from my own vantage point it feels like 1996. That was the year of the militias and widespread training. President Mr Bill with his Democrat Congress were throwing off blazing signals that they intended to end the private possession of guns. Gun sales went through the roof and gun prices skyrocketed because the factories could not ramp up production fast enough. Then came the election itself. The Republicans swept Congress and the prices went down to old normal within a couple of weeks. There was a lot of angst there. Many many people thought we were at the point of armed resistance to tyranny. Election day brought a mass sigh of relief that could almost be heard through the neighborhood.

Indiana, by 11?

I was at early voting Saturday afternoon, in Greenwood Indiana.

90 plus minutes in line and when I left the line was longer!

It's a Conservative area but the Trump signs have been cut down and replaced several times. Today the line was still over 90 minutes long!

We are not a "bell weather" state, just my report, my experience so far.

I was in a big store today in PA and the three clerks were talking back and forth between two registers and it was about their health insurance premiums going up and they were incensed. Thu was a man and two women talking and they were over age thirty. The guy was saying, I’m already working two jobs, I don’t know what I’m going to do. The women were knocking Hillary and they didn’t like the VP guy either. They didn’t seem to know Kaine’s name but they didn’t like Hillary’s VP guy. These are Caucasian union workers who work hard and are very vocal about how upset they are and they’re watching the news about her emails and they said to the effect, good it’s coming out because they don’t want her in office, not after eight years of Obama.

I remember Republicans used to be blue. When did we turn red?

Encouraging to hear from Pat, but a Republican’s path to electoral victory is a LOT harder these days. Since 1988, Democrats have won the popular vote 5 out of 6 times. Blue states have become deeper blue, and formerly safe red states (like VA and NC) are now purple. Remember, Bush’s electoral wins came with only 271 and 286 EVs. Democrat EV wins have been more convincing. Now, just to get to 270, Trump needs all of Romney’s states along with FL, OH, IA, NV, NH and 1 EV from ME. He has to hold on to NC and hope that states like AZ or UT don’t throw him a curve ball. If he loses one of these “270” states, where does he make up for it? (We always get our hopes up for states like PA, WI, or MI, but they disappoint us every four years.) There’s not a lot of wiggle room for a Republican. I just hope things fall into place for Trump.

It feels very little like 1980. And yes, I was old enough to remember and vote back then.

.
I hope its like 1980, and not ‘08 or ‘12.

Romney won in 2012, but the party wouldn’t defend it.

The congressional races prove that Romney won.

Yes, it’s beginning to.

And Caddell knows something about 1980.

Maybe some of you expected to see a state poll with Trump up by 11 a week out, but I didn't. And I will guarantee you the Hillary camp didn't expect to see it. And they may try say, "Well, of course. It's Indiana. Of course."

Um well they would right. Romney won Indiana by 10.2%
