Dinesh De Souza went to jail for doing this inadvertently. He’s lost the right to vote forever. These guys are lawyers and have no excuse.
I don't believe it was "inadvertently". He knew it was illegal, and did it anyway. That's what he said in his guilty plea.
In May 2014, D'Souza pleaded guilty to one felony count of making illegal contributions in the names of others. D'Souza told Judge Berman, "I knew that causing a campaign contribution to be made in the name of another was wrong and something the law forbids. I deeply regret my conduct."

Depends on the State. The trend is to restore felon voting rights in many places. Terry McCauliffe wanted to do it for 400,000 in Virgina alone.
It was a federal “crime” (scare quotes indicate that I would have voted to hold it unconstitutional had I been on SCOTUS, not that that would happen). A President Trump could entirely justifiably (if D’Souza is correct in claiming that his was a selective prosecution) pardon him.I’d be in favor of looking for a balancing case of a Democrat prosecuted under the same circumstances. It that’s not found, selective prosecution can be argued. If it is found, pardon both of them.
