I’m pretty sure he still doesn’t let the press fly with him in his 757, they griped about it in the past. I can’t say that I blame him. His plane’s interior is quite expensive and isn’t set up to carry a large number of people.
He most likely leased that 737 to carry the the traveling press corps just like he leased Pence’s 737.
Paying to get it painted with the Trump/Pence livery was a nice touch. I’m sure the most of the press just love that.
