I know it sounds foolish, but yes, I have heard of DuckDuckGo, but I resist ever using it. Why? Because I don’t like the name. It looks foolish in print and it does not feel good rolling off the tongue. People make product usage decisions based on many different criteria. Not just utility.

Google sounds good, neat, complete. It has a ‘long vowel’ sound to it. The emphasis is on the first syllable, like much of American English .A long vowel sound often gives something a more lasting quality. DuckDuckGo is nothing but a series of short, ‘incomplete’ vowel sounds, It gives the impression that something is missing. I would never have chosen it. I feel that something is stuck in my throat whenever I say it out loud. I dislike saying it out loud.

If one must use birds for the company name, how about other choices, such as ‘Eagle’ Swan, Hoot-Owl, Condor, even Vulture. Vulture has short vowels, but it’s only got two syllables. There is a story and an instant sight graphic that comes to mind, a large, wide winged strong bird that travels alone. Grey Goose is a good one too. oo for Goose.
