Full title: MEDIA ALERT: Paul Nehlen Announces Challenge to Paul Ryan for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

Kenosha, WI – Paul Nehlen today announced his candidacy for Speaker of the House of the United States Representatives.

He released the following statement on his candidacy:

“Real America knows that D.C. lives in a bubble, and that the power players inside the Beltway are concerned with their own fortunes rather than with the plight of the American worker and middle class,” Nehlen opened. “Speaker Paul Ryan – a man who bends over backward to deliver President Obama’s agenda – is the physical embodiment of Washington’s disregard for the American people.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives

The House of Representatives elects the Speaker of the House on the first day of every new Congress and in the event of the death or resignation of an incumbent Speaker. The Clerk of the House of Representatives requests nominations: there are normally two, one from each major party (each party having previously met to decide on its nominee). The Clerk then calls the roll of the Representatives, each Representative indicating the surname of the candidate the Representative is supporting.

Representatives are not restricted to voting for one of the nominated candidates and may vote for any person,

even for someone who is not a member of the House at all.

Anyone can be speaker of the House. They don’t have to be an elected representative. Also little known is that Supreme Court justices don’t have to be judges or even lawyers. The Constitution contains zero requirements for being a justice, other than being appointed and confirmed.

Nehlen is well intentioned, but I don’t think he will be the one to take Paul Ryan out of contention. Ryan smacked him down royally, with 70% of the vote. We need a different White Knight this time. Nehlen needs to start out smaller, and gain more credibility over time. Speaker of the House is a very big deal. High dollar donors may be hesitant to throw big buckets of cash his way so soon after last summer.

Ryan didn’t really want the job in the first place, right? That’s why he insisted on a 4-day work week and extra milk and cookies at bed time.

The Republican speaker of the house needs to be from a solid republican district.

No. He won’t win, but his announcement gets news and starts the ball
rolling for someone else. That’s what I get out of this announcement.

And there is nothing that says he can not be speaker. Maybe it would be time to get one in that has no connections to either side.

As I remember, some Freepers were suggesting Sarah Palin as Speaker. She is certainly someone that would shake their bushes!

Newt wouldn’t want it. He’s been there. His aspiration was the corner office. He’ll most likely be Trump’s Chief of Staff since he has impeccable credentials for that assignment.
