The green-eyed Afghan refugee girl whose iconic photograph captured the world’s attention three decades ago has been arrested for living illegally in Pakistan with fraudulent documents.
Pakistani police arrested Sharbat Gula, now married and in her forties, at her home in Peshawar on Tuesday, just a few miles from the border camp where the famous National Geographic cover image was taken in 1984.
Her arrest followed reports that she, like many Afghans, had illegally procured false Pakistani identity cards - for herself and two men she claimed were her sons - in order to remain in the country.

Fame is fickle.
5 - 14 years hard time for being in the country illegally and having forged documentation. Its almost like they are demanding respect for their national sovereignty.
Pakistan is cracking down on Afghan refugees? I guess the Paki position is that Muslim refugees are all supposed to go the Europe and wage jihad against the infidel.
How awful does your life have to be in order for Pakistan to become your preferred country of residence?

She really does have to live like a refugee.
I have always thought this photo was proof positive of the enslavement of Europeans and the shipping of European women eastward into Muslim lands. The area of Afghanistan and Persian had a large Christian and Jewish population before the Muslim invaders descended and imposed Islam upon their populations.
It’s a lot like what is happening now in Europe, except the sword doesn’t come out, until after the humanitarian plea has been responded to. Once the Muslim population is in place jihad ensues.

I knew a Pakistani fellow who actually had some Russian ancestry.
Apparently the place is a bit more ethnically diverse than we think.
All that publicity brought her to the attention of the authorities.

Why in the hell, given her fame and beauty and all the opportunity that offers be in Pakistan, and illegally of all things? Come to America, Europe is no longer safe ..
