I just received word from Steven's brother, graciously thanking me for making the welfare call to the police and confirming that what many of us feared had indeed come to pass. I did not inquire as to specifics, but Steven had been in very poor health of late, having had a stroke just under four years ago.

Steven and his U.S.S. Clueless blog was the first blog I ever read and I made it my daily ready until he stopped posting years ago.

His brilliance will be sorely missed.

A great man, in my book. SDB's USS Clueless validated the promise of the Internet. Here was an unpaid nobody posting relentlessly brilliant self-generated commentary, political and otherwise, beating television's multimillionaire pundits at their own game, day after day, year after year. He was much smarter than the MSM talking heads, and far more engaging.

I exchanged a few friendly emails with him. I wish I had known him personally.

He deserved better than to die while living alone in an apartment.

Rest in peace, Steven Den Beste.
