It is a majority Sunni city. So having Shia Iraqi military take it over is not going to work out the day after.

Sunni can only be ruled by Sunni and Shia can only be ruled by Shia, otherwise, unless you have an iron-fisted dictator like Sadaam Hussein, you are going to have nothing but chaos, guerrilla warfare, terrorist attack after terrorist attack upon civilians, etc.
And even with a strong dictator it’s a full time job to keep Sunni and Shia from killing each other.
I don’t see why we need to be a part of this at all. It is a religious civil war.
