The area in which you placed your comment is supposed to be the body of the text you have linked.
In the case that the source is one which is designated as "Excerpt Only" you can still post up to 300 words from the article thus giving the rest of us a good idea of whether we wish to use the link (along with it's possible attendant risks) to view and read "the rest of the story."
Your adherence to these established norms might well keep others from noticing your "n00bieness."
