This is what happens when you insult the new Thai king
NY Post ^ | October 17, 2016 | Natalie O'Neill

A woman accused of insulting the kooky crown prince of Thailand was publicly humiliated and forced to grovel beneath a portrait of the country’s late king, according to reports Monday. Police officers dragged Umaporn Sarasat, 43, to the portrait of King Bhumibol Adulyadej outside a police station and forced her to kneel before it Sunday — as 500 onlookers shouted wildly, according to a video posted by the Times of London.

Full story and video at link. I'm guessin' the Thai king probably got the idea from Hillary. This is about the "Thai King" - not to be confused with "Sky King" (Ol' Skye would never done anything like this).

All cultures are equal. Nothing superior or admirable about Western culture.

There is no excuse for respecting any monarchy after Thomas Paine wrote “Common Sense”.

From what I’ve read, the Thais take respecting their monarchs very seriously. They don’t seem to have a sense of humor about that subject at all.

I think the name Bhumibol sounds funny. I guess it’s a good thing I am not in Thailand.

“There is no excuse for respecting any monarchy after Thomas Paine wrote “Common Sense”.”

I would suggest you not go to England and talk trash about the Queen. They’re a bit touchy about that.

I am sure an ignorant and moronic crowd of bad teeth British people could be summoned to overpower me to support the monarch.

So what, are you trying to prove that the world is full of superstitious morons who cannot read?

I've spent considerable time in Thailand.
That is definitely a topic treated with reverence.

I recall in a bar just outside Base Gagetown some years back, a U.S. soldier said some rather flippant things about the Queen. A few SAS guys took exception to that. The police eventually arrived to find two SAS guys standing back to back, fists cocked, over a roomful of American grunts they just mopped the floor with. We have soldiers coming here to train from all over the friendly world. Best watch what you say!

I would expect they do. He supported Thammasat University massacre. A mass murder to shore up his monarchy.
He was only to be feared or avoided, but not respected.

Bhumibol Adulyadej

Regent Prem Tinsulanonda, whose name must never be mocked as something children have removed from their throats, took the necessary action to protect the good name of prince and future king, Maha Vajiralongkorn. Vajiralongkorn sounds almost as much like a porn star's stage moniker as the unfortunate Umaporn Sarasat's, and indeed, Vajiralongkorn sports fake tattoos, has been married three times and has a poodle named "Foo Foo," so, if he isn't a porn star, he should certainly give it a go.

Meanwhile, the country mourns the passing of Bhumibol Adulyadej, the past king, whose parents evidently named him after a hemorrhoid medication.

The Queen's OK. And the Limeys revere their royal family as we do our flag, so it's understandable, as long as it isn't the monarchy per se one is defending.

Unfortunately, Barmy Prince Charlie has about the IQ of a soggy muffin, so he'll be a lot more difficult to stick up for.
