Yup. I’ve read numerous articles about the backlash he’s received for the grand-standing he did. This is nothing more than wanting to hold on to some kind of political future, be it state or federal.
I’m sure Mr. Trump will be accepting of his support, but also know exactly what it’s about.

Exactly. The point this election is to control two branches of government so the third doesn’t get flushed into oblivion.
Did you listen to the actual call he made from a Trump/Pence phone? He doesn’t even ask for a vote for Trump, just to come out and “vote for freedom”.

That's EXACTLY what happened. He took the pulse of we the people of Texas and found out we were pissed. That's enough to make any politician do a 180. Too little too late bud.

If strategic timing was the issue, it’s a major fail. Cruz’ popularity sank like a rock after his convention song and dance. I visit other conservative sites, and his name is now a joke. As in, the butt of many. I could give you links.
As for helping Trump, I haven’t seen that either. When former supporters have turned hard against a politician, it’s hard to argue they have great influence.

Oh please be specific. I’m continually amazed by what people think they know about Cruz. You are suffering from demoncrapitis Mr. Fish, i.e., you are very sure about things that have no basis in fact.
Took him long enough to realize which way the wind was blowing... My guess, early polling showed him in trouble for his re-election.
