Outstanding article for a mainstream mag. The little hints of prejudice are scarce.
It’s refreshing to see reporting — not lefty editorializing — in such a long article, especially in The New Yorker. A man of Arab ancestry who’s wary of women (probably) in burkas, a man of Mexican ancestry who’s in favor of enforcing immigration laws, and a black man whose family was targeted by the most foul racists thirty years ago — their commentary is reported without post-interview condescension, sarcasm, ridicule, second-guessing, or “interpretation”. A very long read and worth it.
