Amtrak Service Resumes After Train Derailment in NYC
NBC Connecticut ^ | 10/5/16

From the article: "New York fire officials said several train cars came off the tracks at Longwood Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard in Hunts Point, Bronx, Wednesday morning."

LIRR broken track this morning, NJ Trains completely disrupted by train derailment, one black box malfunction in that case, no new information about it, attempted terrorist bombing weeks ago in Elizabeth NJ train station, Chelsea bomb was that exploded planted at 23rd and failed attempt on 27th Street - major routes to leave Manhattan. PATH trains - vital transportation in and out of NYC. I may be paranoid, but while we are all pre-occupied with the election, doesn't this all seem coincidental? I acknowledge that the infrastructure leaves much to be desired, but all of these incidents affecting NYC/NJ/CT transportation seems out of place to me. Thoughts?

It’s a toss up for me, knowing how incompetent and derelict of maintenance the LIRR and NJ Transit are.

That is true, no argument with you there. I question the timing of the incidents. Imagine millions not being able to get out of Manhattan? First responders are usually targeted in terror attack.

Imagine, the only evacuation route getting hit? The devastation would be unimaginable.

Trying to think like the bad guys.

Well, true. However, the stupidity and negligence regarding infrastructure, couldn’t a nefarious type take advantage of that to test and plan? Am I the only one that thinks it possible?

Reference #1:

Andrew S. Wigosky (2004). RAPID Value Management for the Business Cost of Ownership. Digital Press. p. 5. ISBN 9781555582890. “[...] Hanlon’s Razor: ‘Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.’ This definition comes from ‘The Jargon File’ (edited by Eric Raymond), but one poster attributes it to Robert Heinlein, in a 1941 story called ‘Logic of Empire.’”

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Robert_J._Hanlon

Similar statements have been made by Goethe, and indeed, Robert Heinlein:
In The Sorrows of Young Werther Goethe declared, “Misunderstandings and neglect occasion more mischief in the world than even malice and wickedness. At all events, the two latter are of less frequent occurrence.”
In his story Logic of Empire (1941) Heinlein declares: “You have attributed conditions to villainy that simply result from stupidity”. He calls this the “devil theory” of sociology.

I want to see the genealogy of Robert J. Hanlon, of Scranton, Pennsylvania before I will believe it was not The Midshipmen.

A freight train derailment in the Bronx disrupts passenger service between Penn Station and New Haven?

CSX and Norfolk Southern have trackage rights on Amtrak's line for their freight trains. Most of their action is after hours when passenger trains aren't running, but occasionally there is freight service during passenger operating hours.

This is a three track right of way, and the derailment fouled at least two tracks.
