Prosecutors say a fire at a hospital in western Germany last week in which two people died was caused by a patient pouring disinfectant over herself and setting it alight in an attempt to kill herself.
The fire broke out in the 69-year-old womans 6th-floor room at the Bergmannsheil hospital in Bochum in the early hours of Friday. She died in the blaze, along with a bedridden 41-year-old man in a neighboring room.

And the Arab Spring was touted to have begun with an act of self-immolation in Tunisia. Hmm.
Don’t they have euthenasia over there? She probably could have just buzzed the nurse for a shot.
Oma selbstgezündet.
Oh, is self immolation wrong here? Because if I had any idea such a thing was frowned upon...
I’ve always wondered why that sign was in English.
The median age in Germany is inching toward 50. Their ratio of taxpaying workers to dependent elders is ridiculously low. Te govt. is hugely motivated to make sure the elders exit quickly and without any fuss.
The sign is in English because few (if any) of Germans speak any Arabic language, but that a fair number of educated Syrians and Iraqis (not so much Afghans, Libyans, etc) speak and read English. So it’s just a wild group of “teenies” who probably did some class project and used it at the train station. The picture has been used by dozens of newspapers.
She passed the self-immolation test with flying colors!
