The N.E.A. published and distributed The American Citizens Handook (bought from 4H) from 1941 through 1969. It was full of patriotic American writings, passages of Scripture, American quotes and stories, good solid American stuff. Rumor has it the last 10,000 copies went to a NY landfill in 1969. Done.
For decades now, a pubic school teacher wouldn’t be caught dead with a copy in zer classroom. Doubt any pubic schools have one left. But, a pink triangle on the door? Posters of famous queer Americans? A section on the Quran? Assigning Michael Moore books to read? Field trip to an Al Gore movie? Kicking out Boy Scouts? All okey doke.
I hold pubic school teachers highly responsible for America’s social, moral and intellectual decline.
