Donald Trump does know how to act in a serious, restrained way that impresses people. The fact that he isnt displaying those qualities in his presidential race raises questions about just how much he cares about winning.
There was a time when he really cared about the art of one deal. In 1990, Trump nearly went bankrupt and was forced to ask dozens of banks to whom he owed $4 billion to change the terms on their loans and forgive some of his debts. In describing this deal, Trump has said he focused on it with more intensity and purpose than anything hed done in his life to that point.
In The Choice 2016, PBSs recently aired two-hour documentary on the election, Gwenda Blair, author of The Trumps, reports that bankers held gigantic meetings at Trump Tower with, like, 40 banks all sitting around in a room, Donald very sober, looking like not quite penitent perhaps, but serious. Blair says that Trump escaped collapse by convincing his creditors he was more valuable to them financially alive rather than dead. He proceeded to recoup his losses by shifting from real-estate deals to licensing his well-known name.
But Trump isnt acting with that seriousness of purpose now. He blew off holding traditional practice sessions before the first debate last week and it showed. Then he spent days counter-punching against Alicia Machados accusation that Trump had humiliated her 20 years ago over her weight gain shortly after she was crowned Miss Universe. Trumps heated back-and-forth with Machado and her supporters in the Clinton camp culminated in a tweet storm at 3 a.m. on Friday in which he urged followers to check out her sex tape.

Difficult argument for them to make, given their full court press to take him out. Getting curb stomped, and then calling the one who curb stomped you a pansy, doesn’t impress.
I’m wondering same thing.
Idiot #NeverTrumper John Fund.
“Analysis” like this is why no one reads National Review.
Trump has the desire and the drive to be President. Hillary doesn’t.
And Trump has gotten to where he has without so-called NRO endorsements.
Yes, Hillary is very serious and restrained as she lies her azz off about all the crooked and treasonous things she and Bill have done over the decades.
OMG! OMG!
Trump isn’t following the media’s definition of presidential politics.
He’s done...it’s over. Cancel the next debate.

I think he REALLY wants to win the presidency. I’m not so sure he really wants to be president.
One thing I still believe is that he started this thing much like the Robin Williams character in Man of the Year. And he did a REALLY good job of it. I don’t think he really expected this thing to take off the way it did.
But, here we are. Pence should be good, though. :-)
Whether he does want to win or he doesn’t want to win, one thing is certain: Attacking Miss Universe while Hillary is attacking him is not a good strategy.
Get over yourselves, NRO. You’ve become a footnote to this campaign.
And, how many rallies has the man held since his nomination?
NAW, he doesnt want to be elected at all! /s
National Review is in the same category as the New York Slimes.
Speaking of getting over oneself, Jonah Goldberg is in need of intervention. He has become more desperate, moody, and anguished over time. He’s even running out of inane pop culture references to deploy in service of his increasingly tired arguments.
I have no idea how much Trump really wanted to be president. But anything Trump gets into he hates to lose, so I think he is in this to win and he’s following the strategy that he thinks gives him the best shot at winning.
Romney clearly won the first debate with O’Bozo, but he didn’t win the election. That is the only poll that matters, so stop with these leftover post-debate attacks on Trump.
Yeah, TRUMP doesn’t want to be President. That’s why he’s putting in more non-stop campaigning effort than Romney and McCain ever did, over the past 18 months.
NATIONAL REVIEW SUCKS
How much does NR want to be a serious news source?
Pray America wakes
Translating John Fund; “why can’t Trump be nice like Romney?”
I wouldn’t insult a parakeet by lining their cages with this BS rag....
