Iran border guards on Thursday fired three mortar shells into Pakistans restive Balochistan province, triggering panic among the local population.
Mortar shells fired by Iranian border guards landed in the district of Panjgoor, a provincial government official said.
Two of the shells landed near Frontier Corps check-post, while the third landed at Killi Karim Dad, the Dawn quoted the official as saying. No property or human loss was reported in the shelling.
Locals panicked as a result of the attack, and Frontier Corps personnel reached the site to initiate investigations.
Security forces tightened security at the border after the incident.
Pakistan shares a 900-kilometre porous border with Iran and the two countries in 2014 decided to boost intelligence coordination to wipe out terrorists from the border region.
The Balochis are ethnic Iranis (there is a Sistan-e-Baloch province in Iran to the west of Pakistan that contains the larger bulk of Baluchis), while in the NWFP to the north, these are ethic Pashtuns who were divided by the BRitish Raj from AFghanistan.
This would leave a rump state of Punjab-Sindh
Looks like a map of where half of WWIII will be fought.
We’re till leading up the behind, er, from behind.
Wait a sec - the Iranians are allowed to enforce a border?
If both Iran and India move against Pakistan the Pakistanis will be forced to either lose or us nuclear weapons. Either way they lose big. As Pakistan in is a s*ithole I say let the Iranians and Indians have it. They can divide it up however they please. That’ll just mean one less worthless country to worry about. If the PRC backs the Pakistanis and invades India then side with India in the sense of giving them recon and material support but don’t commit any troops. Having talked some Peoples Liberation Amy guys when I was in Hong Kong I am not impressed with Chinese military might.
This attack from the Iranian border is almost certainly not sanctioned by the Iranian government. If it were it would be more effective and more sustained. I suspect it is an effort by Indian special forces with the intent to divide Pakistan’s efforts.
That’s a big leap, but I do believe something is not quite right here.
Neither country wants to own Pakistan. The Iranian action is very strange unless they are dealing with some terrorist type action. Pakistan is Sunni and Iran is Shia so it’s a possibility
