The ACC officially has a new location for its football championship game.

The conference announced Thursday morning that the game will move to Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. The move comes two weeks after the conference, following an NCAA decision, decided to move all of its championships outside of the state of North Carolina because of House Bill 2 (HB2), a state law that requires transgender people to use public bathrooms that match the gender on their birth certificates instead of the gender with which they identify.

Great news for FSU and Miami but sucks for the rest of us especially the northeastern teams in the conference. Orlando isn't really close to anything.

Another reason not to watch.

Stupid actions (laws) have consequences.

I haven’t watched a single NFL game this season. I intend to boycott the NCAA as well. Lots of other things to do than watch a bunch of pseudo students playing a sport solely for a spot in the pro sports lottery.

If they don’t care one bit about my values or beliefs then why should I care about what they’re doing? Sponsors are you listening?

Most of us political junkies know that many times politics can be boring, dull, and downright sucky. But wading through all of the raw sewage is the price of being informed. If we want political news and opinion we know where to go to find it, here and other places on the web. If we want to take a break there was always sports. Not anymore. For years they’ve been dragging politics into sports. ESPN is the worst at it. They’re also not very good at it when they do mix the two.

Don’t watch. Don’t support sponsors. Do not donate to member universities. Not a damned dime to those who want to destroy our culture.

Whatever the financial benefit, this is a serious conceptual insult to Orlando—all things considered.

I assume that at NCAA and ACC supported events you can use any bathroom you choose? Also, how much was the Charlotte economy damaged by their passing the ordinance in the first place?

For years ‘pro’ sports [yeah, that includes you NCAA] has looked to be immune from public opinion but now I think I am seeing that facade crumble, at least a bit. I lived in the southern sister to NC but the PC excrement from this truly simple bathroom bill is unbelievable. I will stand with them and not attend or watch any of these idiot boycotts!

South Carolina was boycotted for over a decade by the NCAA which prohibited certain playoff/bowl or championship games from being held in the state for the official presence of an “unpopular” symbol. The offending symbol was removed years ago... Still, there are as many playoff/bowl or championship games scheduled or held today as there were before and during the boycott... NONE.

If all us Trump folks would sacrifice some and not watch the stupids on TV, these boycotts would amount to something, maybe. I have been basically tv sports free since 1995 and it’s been great. Why have some millionaires or soon to be millionaires determining my mood with my friends and family for the next 24-48 hrs anyway. Just turn it off!

Covered that here a few years ago. Seems there are few venues here that could support a major championship game of any kind and they knew it when the boycott of SC started.

Simple question: Does Florida have a law on the books allowing transgenders in using the restroom/dressing room of what they identify with?

If not, it is a double standard of the ACC in selecting Florida.

As far as I am concerned, the NBA, NFL, NCAA and ACC are dead to me.

So they are moving their men’s and women’s championships out of NC? They keep the genders separate in their sports but disapprove of bathrooms keeping genders separate?
I wonder what is going to happen when a 6 foot 10 inch tall 240 lb man who identifies as a woman wants to play on the women’s basketball team at one of these NCAA schools. Tell me how they will handle that. When these things are followed to their logical conclusions they always fall apart.

Another example of manufactured hysteria: If you were to secretly poll every player and coach involved as well as the fans who ACTUALLY watch the games, not a damn would be given about this law.

Charlotte had the contract until 2019. I hope they stick it to these jerks where the contractual obligations are concerned. This move is feelings based.

Not an ordinance (local law), it was a state law, thus the numbering: HB 2, i.e. House Bill 2.

You are talking about my hometown, pallie. Even in winter, Orlando generally has temperate weather that makes it a pleasant venue for outdoor activities. It is the home of the Universal theme park and Sea World, is half an hour from Disney, and is about an hour away from nice, sandy beaches on the Gulf and Atlantic. The area is also loaded with attractions like nightclubs and fine restaurants.

I was meaning to the conference as a whole. The ACC Championship game used to be a hop, skip, and a jump for Clemson and many of the other southeastern teams. Now it’s only convenient for the Florida teams. If we do as good as last season Clemson fans now have to do an extra big trip, possibly adding to their costs with now air travel a hotel stays that may blow their budget for possible travel to the playoff games.
