My commentary:

This poll has skewed slightly more Trump than most. Typically, it shows Trump doing far better among young voters than other polls. So no fist-pumping, "We got this one in the bag," etc. We have to get out there and work our asses off. But it's a very encouraging sign.

The BIG news is that it's a seven-day poll, and now includes one day after the debate. In that one day, Trump has expanded his lead by 0.8%. This is POTENTIALLY yuge, because that one day of post-debate polling is getting diluted by six days that were not post-debate. He COULD go up five more points. Or some of this lead could be noise, or some of it could be a continuation of a trend which had been noisy, but trending upward over the last few days (but had gone down slightly the previous two days).

So it's hard to say HOW big of a deal this trend is. But it's hard to imagine that Hillary benefited from the debate, and that this is purely noise which will reverse itself over the next few days. The USC poll is of over 2,500 people, and Trump's lead is approaching the outer boundaries of the 95% confidence limit.

Frankly, I'm very optimistic after the debate. I don't envision him doing worse, and I don't envision her doing better, so I don't see ay subsequent debates as likely to do anything but help Trump further.

Agree, she lobbed all her big bombs at him and he survived intact. The trend looks good for our guy.

Hillary threw everything she had, including the moderator, at Trump, and this is what she gets.

I hate polls and most Freepers know.

The best indicator of who is ahead would be to take a look at the people that attend the two candidates rallies. It is pretty obvious who is leading. Hitlary is not drawing the crowds and she knows it when she said.....”Why am I not leading by 50 points”? It’s pretty obvious you old cow, your about to become history and on your way to the slaughter house.

46.7-42.6 (4.1%). Was 46.2-42.7 (3.3%). Should be: (3.5%) (if we're talking the "was" spread)

You probably copied this, so I'm not dinging you...

“President Trump.” Get VERY used to saying it, kids. This country will flourish under President Trump.

Imagine a classy, beautiful, proud first lady in Mrs. Trump. Gone are the frumpy threads that she crammed her prodigious posterior into. Someone who beams the pride of representing the United States.

FYI, I’ve been accused of being a Cruz bot, in the worst, ugliest ways. I’ve only ever wanted the most conservative president we could have. Right now, my choices are Trump, Johnson, Stein and Clinton. Like 90%+ of Cruz’ former supporters, I find the choice absolutely clear.

When Republicans threaten to nominate a bad candidate, I can be tempted by the notion that it’s only four years, and we’re better to lose one race for four years, than to lose the having a viable alternative forever.

This is clearly not the case. It is now plain as day who the Democrats in sheep’s clothing have been (Bush, Dole, McCain, Romney), and who the simply nut jobs are (Beck). Trump has nothing but his promises and his willingness to invest his own race, but they are good promises.

Also, I’m not sure this time democracy will survive four more years of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Clinton.

I respect that Cruz took a LONG time healing the horrible attacks on his marriage before he endorses Trump. If we were purely rational creatures, he should have endorsed Trump at the convention. But if someone goes after my wife as viciously as Trump did, knowing she’s emotionally fragile, I’d struggle greatly with the notion that I was being asked to “throw her under the bus” for the greater good of the nation.

That said, I am very glad that Cruz is at long last doing what’s best for the nation. Maybe he decided it’s what’s best for his long-term career. I don’t care right now. Maybe I will in four years. Today, I only care that he’s on the right side now.

My wife hates Trump personally. But she recognizes Clinton is evil and her policies are terrible. I tell her, “our nation is more important than whether Trump deserves to win as a human being.”

God bless Trump. If he is not a sincere Christian, may God convert him. I do believe that Trump is presently seeking to know what is best for America. May God continue to guide him. If he needs it, may that soft whisper in Trump’s ear become a great and loud horn.

May America never forget that we need to do God’s will first, and may all Christians ever seek first the continual renewal and conversion of America towards Christ.

Just like Reagan/Carter. The press and pundits all thought Carter won. Now everyone universally says how great Reagan did.

Sweet. Got to drive the elite media and Clinton crazy. She “won” the debate according to them and is losing support. Priceless.

I like to find this poll to observe trends more than anything, and the trend line has been good for Trump. It will be interesting to see how it trends in the next week.

Looking at the previous poll number and compared to this new one -

it means SOME in the undecided camp have made their move (temporarily), and it is breaking more towards Trump than Hillary Clinton.

The few that Hillary picked up showed msm still have some influence, not as dead as we all hope.

Anecdotal info:

I’m working a GOP campaign office in a small town. The first weekend (2 weekends ago), we had about 23 people stop in to pick up Trump signs. Of those 23 people, 4 people openly announced to us that they were Democrats getting on the Trump Train.

Last weekend my shift was extraordinarily slow, with only 4 people total coming in during my shift.... 1 of those was a “lifelong Democrat, now on the Trump Train.” Her mother, also a lifelong Democrat, had already mailed in her early-voting ballot for Trump.

The woman had asked her mother, “Hey Mom, what are you going to do if Trump gets rid of your ObamaPhone?” The Mom replied, “I survived a long time before I had an ObamaPhone, I’ll survive without one again.”

That makes no sense. I have it on the best authority that:

(1) Trump peaked at 20% support, at 25%, at 30%, 35%, and 40% support. How can his support continue rising after all the experts, almost every professional journalist in the country, assured us he had peaked?

(2) Hillary won the debate with her superior command of policy minutia. How can Trump’s numbers go up when Hillary knows so many details about how she is going to seize absolute power over us little people?
