Back in the day I worked briefly for a well-known liquor and wine purveyor in NYC. They had bought an old cellar that had been discovered by accident when a building in mid-town was being remodeled.

It had several levels cut into the bedrock of the city and kept a stable year-round temperature ideal for wine. In the very bottom level where youhad to climb down a metal ladder they found some of very olde wines still unopened in huge jeroboam bottles.

Eventually they opened one of them and found nothing but vinegar. An anti-climax, but it was still a cool discovery.
