Marlins' Dee Gordon breaks down into tears after hitting lead-off home run

Dee Gordon took the first pitch of the Marlins' first-at bat since Jose Fernandez's tragic death Sunday from the right-handed batter's box while wearing Fernandez' helmet as a tribute to his late teammate.
The third pitch, he hit a home run.

He was crying before he got to second base . . . and so was I. Can’t write a script like that without people calling it impossible.

Incredibly poignant start to the Marlins vs Mets game. A group of emotionally broken young men reaching into their depths to make it through nine innings. Dee Gordon's HR was amazing. Let's call that some divine intervention.
Hat tip to Colon and the Mets for their empathy toward the Marlins' pain.
Gotta appreciate the symbolism of the tributes in baseball. The Marlins special black jerseys--fresh from the factory, each emblazoned with the name Rodriguez and #16--didn't arrive today until after the Marlins had finished BP.
