People used to be able to look up without charge the address and phone number for almost everyone on White Pages dot com. It was the digitized substitute for the white pages phone books that were no longer being distributed to the American public. Now, with the profit motive overstepping its bounds, only a scant number of people are listed with free access to their basic contact information. Commercial ventures have made it impossible to find people’s information gratis, as had been the case for 75 years, except for those who chose and paid for being unlisted. We should shudder to think what the internationalists will do to strip and control and add far greater snooping and restrictions and charges to whatever they want on the web.
