Watch Out, NATO: New Russian Warship Gun Second to None

The Russian Navy has decided to equip all of its small missile ships and boats with a unique high-precision digital 76 mm automatic gun, the Russian newspaper Izvestia quoted a Russian navy source as saying.

Designed to contain NATO warships equipped with Italian-made Oto Melara guns, the АК-176МА is equipped with an all-weather electro-optical system which shares its characteristics with a sniper rifle, according to the source.

It said that the new gun's combination of high ballistic performance with an electronic management control system add to the AK-176MA's complete superiority over its main competitor, the 76-mm gun made by the Italian firm Oto Melara, which is used by the ships of more than two dozen countries.

Izvestia quoted military expert Vladimir Shcherbakov as saying that the 76-mm automatic multi-role naval guns are a universal weapon that actually can destroy a whole array of targets.

"They are capable of destroying not only the enemy ships, but also airborne targets, including drones. Also, these guns can be effectively used to fire on a coast, including on targets located at a considerable distance from the coastline," he said.

Right now, the AK-176MA is being tested aboard the guard ship Polyarnaya Zvezda (Polar Star), the flagship of project 22100 Okean (Ocean).

Will a LGBTQ Navy have the guts to face off with the determined Ruskies?

If the nutjob NeoCons have their way, we’ll find out soon enough.

If George Soros is commanding one of those NATO ships, crewed by Blackwater mercenaries, all at the behest of Monsanto, Sputnik will be the first to let us know.

Funny. They come up with a new whiz-bang 76mm naval gun, and we have tested gauss-guns and lasers on ours and are looking to make them standard equipment. Somehow, I’m underwhelmed by this.

I remember 15 years or so ago, Putin said he was cutting his military size in half, and using that money for weapons development - back when he had FULL ACCESS to Western Technology (remember, they didn’t become the bad guys until they started protecting their children from gays).

We yawned...and kept cutting back everything. Now the results are coming in.

The hardware is important. However, if the leadership is not determined and the populace prepared for casualties, the best hardware in the universe will not help you win. The United States no longer has “win” in their vocabulary. Likewise, we have done away with the concept of killing the enemy. We could have the start ship Enterprise, but if Obama is captain we will lose.

The gauss guns and lasers are now being backburnered and may soon be canceled. We already cancelled development of the WB-type fusion plant needed to power them. Current warship generation capacity means one shot per five minutes at best and that’s with a big bank of capacitors.

It must be nice to have such a humane enemy, like the United States, who will sit back and will allow its enemies the luxury of taking a time out to develop its military power.

Not unless their ship is redecorated.
Fabulous!

I was in VN when I realized that we were not fighting to win. Whenever the NVA would run low on ammunition or weapons there would be a ceasefire for 30, 60 or 90 days while Peace Talks were held in Washington, DC. When the transfers from Russia and China had been completed, we get back to killing each other, like soldiers are supposed to do.

Of course the weapon suppliers stock prices rarely skipped a beat during that war. These days wars are fought to keep the economy moving, spend money, keep corporations healthy and bankers happy. There’s nothing in the contract that says you have to win the war to come out ahead.
