URGENT ACTION ALERT – THE THREAT: REPEAL OF HB 2 UNDER CONSIDERATION [NC]
Barbwire ^ | 21 September 2016 | Dr. Mark Creech

Posted on 09/21/2016 3:36:23 PM PDT by fwdude

It all started this week with the decisions by the NCAA and the ACC to move their championship games out of North Carolina in protest of HB 2, commonly known as “the bathroom bill.” Shortly after that, the Christian Action League began to hear rumors that some lawmakers were talking about either amending the law or fully repealing it. Those dreaded rumors were confirmed when lawmakers that had previously supported HB 2 started telling the Press the issue should be revisited.

The latest news is very disturbing! The Raleigh News and Observer (N&O) is now reporting that the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (NCRLA) says that their industry is suffering as “collateral damage in a fight that they did not start or ask for,” so they have been working behind the scenes to broker a compromise.

The N&O reports, “NCRLA has received assurances this week from legislative leadership, that if the Charlotte City Council repeals (its nondiscrimination ordinance) at their meeting on Monday, the General Assembly is prepared to meet in special session as early as next week to repeal House Bill 2…Furthermore, Gov. Pat McCrory has assured NCRLA that he is willing to call legislators into a special session next week for this purpose if both the city and the legislators have the votes for repeal.”

Let me share briefly a few thoughts on this development.

Even if Charlotte were to repeal the egregious ordinance that necessitated the need for HB 2, this issue is not going away. By judicial fiat, leftist ideologues have already succeeded in redefining our most basic and foundational institution – marriage. Now they are determined to redefine gender and basic norms of privacy. Moreover, they believe that whenever the free exercise of religion conflicts with LGBTQ assertions, then one’s claim to the protections of the First Amendment become an excuse for bigotry, discrimination, intolerance, and homophobia. Thus, they seek to redefine and overturn the real meaning of our most important right, our first right, the right to live according to one’s peacefully expressed beliefs without punishment by the government.

North Carolina is at ground zero in this struggle. The fight in which we find ourselves engaged is not merely about our state and its future, but it’s about the entire nation.

Progressives understand what’s at stake, and this is why they are strategically using every big gun they have in their arsenal to strike down HB 2 in North Carolina, whether its celebrities, a media smear, big corporate entities, or the NCAA and the ACC. They know that if HB 2 survives, their objectives as previously mentioned will be stalled – possibly indefinitely on a national scale – conceivably leaving them with the prospect of future losses.

A war of any type is costly, even if it’s a just war, as is the case for the survival of HB 2. And sometimes, there is collateral damage. However, much greater will be the losses to our state and nation should this statute be repealed or amended in a way that strips it of its force and purpose.

No longer will we be able to ensure the safety of our women and children. No longer will basic standards of decency be upheld or expected. No longer will private businesses or churches be assured that they may practice their faith without government interference.

No God-fearing, respectable, upstanding citizen of this state can exempt himself or herself from the price that must be paid to ultimately achieve this necessary victory. Our leaders must also be utterly resolute.

Jesus said, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). The principle contained in that passage contends that once we’ve set our course in pursuit of a righteous cause if we look back, we’ll just mess the whole thing up.

This is no time for equivocation by our Governor, the General Assembly, or the thousands of North Carolinians who have believed in HB 2! Instead, this is the time to say as Admiral David Glasgow Farragut said at the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War, “Dang the torpedoes, full speed ahead.”

Well, he didn’t say “Dang,” but I had to clean it up a bit. Still, you get the message.

I urge you to act now to make your voices heard. Your silence at this critical time only adds to the threat. Please pass this message along to others via email and social media. You might also share it with your church or Sunday School class on Sunday.

God Bless,
Dr. Mark Creech
Executive Director

Take Christian Action:

Our Governor and North Carolina lawmakers need to hear from you right away.

Please take a moment to contact them by email or a phone call, better still do both and express to them that you appreciate the way they have stood in defense of HB 2. Tell them that you want them to stay the course, even in the face of political extortion from nefarious forces inside and outside of our state.

Here’s the Governor’s email address: governor.office@ncmail.net
Here’s the Governor’s phone number: 919.733.6001

To get the contact information of your Representative in the NC House and your Senator in the N.C. Senate, go to this link. Then look under “State Legislature” and both legislators, the one in the House and Senate that represents you will be listed. Click on their names and send them your message, imploring them to stand by HB 2.

All North Carolinians need to take immediate, aggressive action to thwart this capitulation. Even out-of-staters need to call - the left certainly will be.

They’ll back down. You can’t serve God and Mammon. And Mammon wins every time these days.
