Off-Duty Officer Reveals What Brought Him to St. Cloud Mall on Saturday

Officer Jason Falconer was off duty when he stopped the stabbing attack at Crossroads Center in St. Cloud on Saturday.

He is receiving a lot of attention and praise for his bravery by the community, Gov. Mark Dayton and President Barak Obama.

Both spoke to Falconer on the phone Monday. President Obama said, "We are very grateful no one lost their life. Thanks to the brave action of the off-duty officer, the suspect was killed and we avoided more people being hurt."

While Falconer, the part-time officer with the Avon Police Department and former police chief in another town, isn't ready to talk publicly just yet, he did talk with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reporter Beth McDonough at his other job, Tactical Advantage in Waite Park. Falconer is an expert in firearms training and a competitive shooter. He is a member of the US Practical Shooter's Association.

When asked what he was doing at the mall on a Saturday night, Falconer smiled and answered, "Buying my son's birthday present."

He said the gift made it home despite what happened next.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis described what he saw on surveillance footage from inside Macy's.

"The officer then fired a round, a few rounds, you see him, the suspect, get back up. Again, he was fired upon, you see him fall, you see him get back up. Three times, and then, even after that, he was still attempting to get back up again. Well then, the officer fired the fatal blow."

When asked if he was shooting to wound or shooting to kill, Falconer firmly said, "Shooting to stop the threat." He said that phrase twice.

Falconer said he's not going to talk publicly about the incident until the investigation is over.

For obvious technological reasons, I'd very much like to know specifics: weapon, caliber, bullet type, and location of hits. That bastard didn't want to go down. THIS is why we need standard capacity magazines.

Owner of a gun range.

Instructor of local PD’s in the area.

Etc...

The exact right guy in the right place on Saturday night in St. Cloud.

It was two street cops who stopped the St. Cloud jihadist and arrested the Afghan bomber from New Jersey.

This may or may not become public information. Was the perp wearing some sort of body armor? Was he a tweeker high on some really special drug?

Was this firearms expert carrying a pop gun?

I’ll go with scenario #1.

The USMC taught me that (outside of a combat zone) you never unholster your weapon unless your life or the life of an innocent bystander is in danger (or a grave National Security Risk must be stopped). Then, you don’t wave the weapon around to scare the attacker and you don’t shoot to wound. You shoot to ensure that the threat is stopped.

These procedures are designed to prevent a minor situation from escalating into a fatal situation unnecessarily. You wait until the situation requires the use of deadly force, then you apply deadly force.

And just what is Obambi saying privately; will he takes steps to have the hero’s gun range closed?; will the gun range be audited by the IRS? Will the hero’s police department be taken over by the Justice Department?

Divine intervention and a birthday that family will never forget. Guys like that make me proud to be an American, and I wonder if Trump could do an event with this man present. It would be outstanding.

I don’t have a lot of training, not being military, just a carry permit holder since 2003.

But, I took some good classes that taught if you are going to pull it, you need to use it. Nothing else.

No guarantees in a gunfight.

Case in point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FraE77l4fI

Badguy hit 5 times .357 Hollowpoints, arguably one of the most effective pistol rounds in history.

Officer hit one time with a .22.

Guess who died?

Babyface Nelson was hit 9 times and still managed to kill two FBI agents.

Sometimes motivation will make you ignore the fatal long enough to be lethal yourself.

When asked if he was shooting to wound or shooting to kill

Doogle responded " being a competitive shooter I wanted to wound.I wanted to remove his right thumb first, then a testicle... Put a round in each kneecap, then try to put one up his left nostril and have it exit his right ear"

Let’s not forget the Texas traffic cop who shot two ISIS Islamic terrorists in body armor dead as they were mounting their attack on a free speech event in Garland Texas.

I’m thinking that the cop gave him two chances to stay down and then caught the third one in the melon.

If you ever find that info, please, please ping me, and I'll do the same. I've been looking for 2 days with no luck.

Whatever caliber he was using, I want one bigger. lol!

a lot of concealed carriers go out the way, to avoid printing of their side arm... such as a small caliber, concealable model... like a 380 or even a 9 mm.

They are successful when they have great shot placement.

I don’t think most perpetrators of terror will go down with but one 9 mm to the chest.
A 45 to the sternum or the ‘golden triangle’ of the head is a different thing than a 9 mm to the torso... but a 45 does not ‘conceal’ as well.

My guess is he had his backup, a smaller caliber piece, and not a service sidearm, and not a 45... but that is just my guess.

He also might have had to fire at a vector that was not as advantageous as at the firing range... to protect those who were beyond the field of fire.

From outside corner to outside corner of eyes, is about 10 centimeters, from the center line of eyes to center line of mouth.. is about 10 centimeters. (3.9 inches)

I suspect when they were asking him about whether he shot to wound or to kill... he correctly answered to “stop the threat”.

If he did center of mass, like many do... it might take a few shots to “stop the threat”... I cannot imagine a 45 to the center of the head that would not stop the threat immediately and permanently.

I am going with the assumption that he was using a short barrel, 9 mm, with multiple shots to the torso... first.

REGARDLESS of what he did... I am very very impressed that it was a permit holder, with training who took the fight to the Christian hating Islamic terrorist... and saved those people’s lives.

THAT is a miracle. God PLACED HIM there at that time and location to save lives!

I think it’s important, particularly in the next several months, for those who are trained and proficient to carry concealed continuously, unless restricted by law...

Even then... I suspect that the terrorist whack jobs, will be out in force at “gun free zones” to try and run up their score between now and the inauguration of president Trump.
