Why not just tow a small trailer with a generator?

I am of the belief that a combination of internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motor(s) will be ultimate solution. The ICE will run a charging device for the battery and the electric motors will turn the wheels. This is exactly the same system used in most railroad engines. In this configuration the ICE will only run when the battery drops to a certain level. This configuration will also all but eliminate the need for charging stations.

Awesome suggestion!
And with a hydrogen-powered car, tow a generator, water tank and electrolysis unit.

"Why not just tow a small trailer with a generator?"

The article talked about the need for a "50 kW charger". A 50 kW generator along with its necessary fuel tank would weigh more than the car. It would take a whole lot more than a "small trailer".

” Why not just tow a small trailer with a generator?”

That’s what a Volt is.
