You could have said the same thing of the early internal combustion cars (or any new technology for that matter).

Electric cars are not new technology.

You are forgetting that battery powered cars debuted at the same time (circa 1890's) as the gas powered piston-engine cars. Battery power lost.

While it may be true that a reasonably priced, long enough range electric car will be produced someday; it is likely that the gas powered car will have advanced by then. The battery powered car would then still compare unfavorably, and people will still be saying, "Just you wait and see."
