Millions of migrants have either made their way to western Europe, are stuck in camps at borders or have died while trying to make the perilous crossing.
The latest figures show hundreds of thousands are still attempting to cross the continent, with a rise in traffickers jumping on the migrant smuggling bandwagon.
Europol, European Union’s law enforcement agency, recently released figures documenting the shifting trends in the illegal trade.
With more than 12,000 new suspects reported to Europol so far this year, a statement from the agency said: "Between early 2015 and the summer of 2016, the picture of migrant smuggling to and within the EU has undergone significant changes."
When compared with a year ago, the nationalities of the smugglers has undergone a drastic shift.

Other places ended the African slave trade but this country made it both illegal and immoral. EVERY culture, of any size, in the world had slavery. It wasn't immoral or illegal. There was slavery in Saudi Arabia until the Kingdom "officially" banned it in 1968.
