Any policy towards illegals must - MUST - address the incentives that are set up by that policy. Are you incentivizing more to try their hand at illegal entry or are you incentivizing them to stay home and apply through the legal process?

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of this easy access, there can be only one immigration policy - Stop giving prizes for illegal entry.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty. And any amnesty will bring millions more invaders.

Step 1 has to be coupled with an understanding that “no benefits” includes minimal medical stabilization and transport to the home country. Better yet, the cost should be billed to the home country—which benefits from the laborers in the US via remittances home.

They need to enforce the laws that are on the books, especially the ones Obama has ignored. Many overstay their visas with no consequences. They are illegals. The 19 hijackers on 9-11, most if not all had overstayed their visas. The was 2001 which means the Bush administration as lax in enforcing our laws. A visa has a time limit on it for a reason.

I cannot disagree with you more. You do not make legitimate what is willfully illegal.

1. How about you announce a grace period of say 120 days. Any illegal in the country after, by law, will never get legal status and never get citizenship (and take away all their possessions, including bank accounts.

2. Empower local and state authorities to arrest and deport illegals. And let these authorizes collect fines for their benefit.

3. Offer rewards for turning in companies/individuals who employ illegals.
