I was worried myself over the possibility of a switch.
However (and I could be in error here) I think that in
many states the deadline for changing the ballot has
passed, and it is no longer possible to substitute.

Perhaps someone of a more legal technical mind will
clarify this, but I do know that many states do have
a deadline in such matters.

I saw a discussion about this yesterday on one of the shows (I don’t remember the exact show—they all blur together after a long day) and one talking head/reporter said that Bill Clinton was in the process of putting a legal team together to stop any attempt to remove Hillary from the ticket. They would sue the DNC if necessary or something like that.

As I understand it, the vote in November is for a slate of electors to the Electoral College. They vote for president in December.

Until the electoral college vote in December the parties are free to present any slate they want.

That said, Hillary would have to be dead to be replaced on the ticket. Comatose isn't good enough. Stone, cold, dead only.

In presidential elections, the voter votes for an ELECTOR of the preferred political party, not the candidate. The candidate name on the ballot is a conveneince for the voter, who is more likely to know the name of the candidate than the name of the person the voter is actually voting for. Parties can and have swapped out a candidate after the general election!

United States presidential election, 1872 - Wikipedia

On November 29, 1872, after the popular vote was counted, but before the Electoral College cast its votes, Greeley died. As a result, electors previously committed to Greeley voted for four different candidates for president and eight different candidates for vice-president.
